Definitely a salary dump for the Oilers (or maybe Bowman draws the line at criminal activity against women but not men?) as they have ~$15.5 million in cap space with 5 UFA and Bouchard as a RFA this offseason. I also didn't think Kane looked very effective these playoffs.

Depends who it is for, I'm fine with them using it in a trade if it gets an actual difference maker but I'm skeptical. I'm also fine choosing at 13 it seems like there should be some solid options there.

Well he had a 10 team no trade clause (which I didn't realize) and it is probably fairly likely that the Wings were on it. Plus: Unfortunately there are a lot more nuances to trades than just outbidding other teams. I'm honestly not sure why people assume Yzerman is just sitting on his hands. There were heavy rumors that we were really in on Stamkos last offseason (thank god that didn't happen with what money he got) and they had a deal worked out for Trouba that Trouba nixed. I have faith that he is going to try to improve the team through trades and FA but it doesn't always work out.

I think both teams would say no. Detroit would decimate the little center depth they have and Dallas wouldn't have room for Larkin's contract.

I'm guessing Dallas will be looking to offload Marchment, Dumba and Lyubushkin (those last two contracts are oogly). Maybe Steel? Robertson makes sense too since he'll need a decent sized contract soon. They have to plan for Harley's contract too. They probably shouldn't but I bet they re-sign Benn's corpse so I will be watching with a lot of interest.
