  1. He seemed to be the Tiger most victimized by egregiously bad calls last year. Haven't noticed that much this year, but you make a good point that he should benefit more than others from the ABS.
  2. Two weeks ago all three were on the trading block or demotion watch. You got to love baseball fans.
  3. He's not under contract for next year, is he?
  4. To your point, the Tigers are 9th in MLB in run prevention (4th in AL) and 16th in runs scored. Run scoring is up a tick from last year (and that is comparing 2026 April to 2025 in its entirety, which suggests the gap will widen even further).
  5. Bullpens are insanely fickle. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they get hot for a month or two then revert back to the mean. Just hope they are on an uptick come September and October. My hope is Verlander returns and is decent, sending Montero to the pen, where he looked pretty good last fall. Then add Melton, who definitely has swing and miss stuff.
  6. How are the Reds 16-9 with a -2 run differential?
  7. I agree that he probably won't age well, and I wouldn't sign him to an extension. But to think his production will be easily replaced is wishful thinking.
  8. I don't know that Greene is a star. But his bat is important and will not be that easy to replace. 119 wRC+ as a 22-year old, 134 as a 23-year old, and 145 through 100 games last year. Everyone remembers the last 60 games when he slumped, but the 260 games before that he definitely performed at an All-Star level. I'm surprised at how quickly this board has turned against. He wouldn't be the first guy to suffer through a 2-3 month slump but then right the ship in a big way. Way too early to give up the on the guy.
  9. And against a hot offense. Impressive stuff tonite.
  10. If only. Total crapshoot whether the audio will be synched up with the video. And of course when it isn't the audio is always ahead of the video. If it were the other way around I could live with that.
  11. Not that Cy Young voting is a perfect metric but Valdez finished in the top 10 in voting for the Cy Young in 2022, 2023, and 2024, plus 11th in 2020 (which doesn't really count). The analytics may not support it, but the general perception league wide is that Valdez has been top 10 pitcher for most of the last 5 years.
  12. Vest fastball was sitting at 93. What the heck is that?
  13. I know performance under pressure really isn't a thing, but it certainly feels as though Baez needs the stakes to be a bit higher to perform at his best.
  14. I think they ended up 11th in runs scored. If they repeat that and bring the runs allowed into the top 10 they will contend for a playoff spot. The offseason moves suggest that this is what the Tigers were thinking.
  15. Granderson was a bit old for a prospect. Cup of coffee at 23, 47 games at 24, first full season at 25. Compare that to Greene, who just turned 25 or Keith, who is 24.
  16. Same with Packers as well I think. Last 4 losses all set up the same way and defense could not get a stop.
  17. As I recall Marvin Miller feared such a scenario.
  18. Their lineup is getting a bit long in the tooth.
  19. My wife, just now, sent me a text asking why the Tigers traded Skubal to the Yankees. After a brief moment of panic I realized it was one of those dreadful internet proposed trades masquerading as a done deal. It's going to be a long offseason.
  20. Mize is a free agent after next year as well. And the way Hinch treats him it seems unlikely the Tigers will move aggressively to retain him.
  21. Soto was 2.5 years from free agency. Skubal just one.
  22. Watching Skubal mow down the Mariners while his pitch count climbed really detracted from my enjoyment of the moment, to be honest. I knew he'd be out by the 5th or 6th inning and had little confidence the bullpen could record 9-12 outs without yielding a run or more. I'm not arguing that Hinch should have allowed Skubal to rack up 125 pitches, like the good ole days, but the sense of foreboding kind of stunk. Aces being pulled after 100 pitches really is one of the bummers of following the modern game.
  23. I don’t think the Tigers are punting on the 2026 season, and I doubt they would receive a return that would make them better in 2026. So I don’t expect a trade.
