Yes he is. He’ll be 29 on October 15th. I’d like to see this guy stick around but I doubt very seriously the Tigers have any intention of such. He may not have any interest in staying but it would be nice to at least have that conversation. Glad to see him get a much deserved win.
It probably would depend on who that someone else is. I look at the Isaac Paredes trade and it is apparent that the Rays saw something in him, an upside the Tigers weren’t seeing. For the record, my comment here is totally separate from Austin Meadows. I’m not comparing the two players.
The same could apply to Tork now. Different clubs apply different approaches to every aspect of the game. I’d be very comfortable in saying there are orgs out there now that could get him to a higher level of productivity than he’s managing here. I’m pretty much to the point that the Tigers don’t have the answer on Tork.
I’ll go back to my two preseason “Bold Predictions” to start…
I predicted Flaherty would receive votes for the NL Cy Young award. I still think that is a possibility, but less so now.
I also predicted Torkelson would regress this year. To date he has lived up to my expectations.
The remainder of the year:
I was really hoping this team could manage a wild card spot this season but I don’t see that as a likely scenario now. A fourth place finish in the AL Central is looking like a realistic possibility. That’s a tough take when you look at what Kansas City has accomplished year over year. Cleveland hires an outstanding manager in Stephen Vogt and they’re playing lights out. I figured Vogt would be good. His playing bio suggested he would be very qualified to be a ML manager.
The trade deadline is already a couple of months out and I’ve seen nothing to make me believe this front office is capable of pulling off a trade that would really move the needle here.
Generally speaking, I believe this team will do well to finish .500 this year.
I believe Anderson and Leyland had a higher regard and respect for the game than Hinch ever will. Sparky refusing to manage replacement players says more about his respect for the integrity of the game than I could say for him. Anderson signed his resignation papers on the game he loved that spring without fully realizing it at the time.
Leyland & Anderson are HOF members that were never good players. They’re in because they respected the game and brought integrity to the dugout. They were winners on and off the field. I don’t see Hinch ever being that guy.
Awesome!
I bought tickets for this Tuesday when Erie is in Richmond. Attending that with my son. Had hoped to see Jobe in that series but doesn’t look like he’ll be back this week.
Not Tigers related but my wife and I got tickets for the June 18th game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham. The opponent is Montgomery. I have wanted to attend a game at Rickwood for years. The following night the Barons and Biscuits play at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery. We’ll see that game as well. Looking forward to that excursion. Can’t beat MiLB road trips.
I think Rogers settled on Faedo for the next podcast. I think that would be an interesting one to watch.
Yeah, It was an almost awkward couple of seconds after Baez’ name dropped. Telling.
