Libertarianism definitely does attract some nut jobs. The Wallaces and Dukes now make up part of the core of the Republican party, so you won't get them running as independents Amash is not bad. He has spoken out against Trump though, so he won't get anywhere in an election.
-
No, I am talking about one of them running as a third party candidate in the presidential race. The part where I mentioned you is just a joke. Every time I have an idea, people say it's not going to work. It reminds of the Tigers forum and somebody always has a trade idea or a free agent which gets shot down as a terrible idea. I am that guy in the political forum. 😀 It's OK though. I am aware of my lack of political knowledge.

We know that Justin Amash is real. I just looked up Mapstead and Rectenwald and they are real. I am all for one of the Libertarians running as an Independent and stealing a few Republican votes. Now, of course it would be better if they voted for Biden instead, but nobody who would vote for a Libertarian would consider a Democrat. Waitning for MTU to come here and tell me that's not how it works!

I think Trump would have died of Covid if he didn't have the best medical care in the world. They can do amazing things with hearts today though. My dad lived until 99 and his heart was functioning less than 40% the last dozen years.

Remember when Pete Buttigieg was going to be the next big thing?

If there were no term limits for President I am pretty sure Obama would have beaten Trump. He'd probably still be President today and he'd probably be better at it with experience. So, I can see that argument.
-
Judging from the responses, I gather that term limits are not good for Democrats. 😀 So, if that's the case, I am sorry I mentioned it! How about "term" limits for the Supreme court?
-
I agree. Biden and Trump will both live into their 90s unless they get something unmanageable like some aggressive form of cancer. They could be in very poor health for a long period of time, but they will be kept alive.

I once dropped a pop-up at a minor league game and I could hear the announcer in the near by booth mention it. -
Is he declining or was he unlucky last year? His hard hit% and exit velocity were still elite. Given his age, he may well be on the decline, but that might not be a safe assumption. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/matt-chapman-656305?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb

One thing that might change things would be Congressional term limits. That way there would always be popular candidates still in their primes who wanted to go on to bigger things once their congressional days were over. I like term limits anyway, because I don't think political jobs should be forever.
-
I know he would have won an open primary because they system would not have allowed a fair competition. However, if the model changed, I think it could work some time in the future after everyone was accustomed to it. It would take away the power from the parties though which is why it won't happen.
-
Even though I disgree with what they are doing, it was a great post!

I believe what you are saying is exactly what's happening politically. I don't like parties though and I don't like them making the decision for everyone. I just don't think discouraging choices is ever a good thing and I don't think what has happened in the past is a guarantee of future success. I do not think Biden is incompetent, but for some reason he is very unpopular. That tells me either people have soured on him or the only reason he won in 2020 is because Trump is so horrible. I hope it's the latter, but I fear it may be some combination of the two. I fear there are a lot of people who are disappointed in the direction of our country in general and they are going blame whomever is currently on the top. Some will forget how how horrible Trump was and just not vote.
-
It seems like politics has changed an awful lot in recent years though. The lack of choices could change and it should change. I mean isn't an open primary what Democracy is about? Maybe like you said before things would get more interesting with ranked voting.
-
It only weakens Biden if the primary protest voters sit out the general. I will definitely be voting for Biden in November. I voted for Sanders in the primary in 2016 and Clinton in the general. Neither vote was a mistake.
-
Yes, Biden is the only choice in November.
-
That's because the media needs him to win.
-
Two recent polls - Trafalgar (Trump + 21) and Hill/Emerson (Trump +22) were pretty close.

I know what I have read about him and I have heard him speak, same as any other new candidate. You automatically hate anybody who is not the establishment candidate and scold anyone who isn't with the establishment program. That has been your position ever since I started posting in this forum. Yes, I am they type of person who votes today and also in past electons. I have chosen not to spend a lot of my life worrying about politics because I don't have patience with all the bull****. I try to have a general idea of what's going on which is about the best you'll get from the majority of the population. It's all about money and power, but the things Democrats pretend to care about are more in line with my thinking than what Republicans pretend to care about, so I vote Democrat. Also, it takes very little knowledge or intelligence to know that Trump is a turd and a fraud and unfit for any leadership role.
-
OK, I will. Thanks for the advice Cecil.
-
Yes, that could be be a big problem too. I just don't know enough about international stuff to know how likely that is. Trump could be bluffing about the NATO talk, but I really don't trust him to do the right thing about anything. I want him out of the way.
-
I don't think Trump getting elected is going to end our Democracy. I want him to lose because he is a horrible person and A horrible President. I want the Republicans to lose because they are bad for people who need help the most. If Trump wins and the Republicans win Congress, we will still have a Democracy, but there will massive cuts to programs that help poor, disabled, unhealthy and others who need help. That would pretty much guarantee that the Democrats will be back in power in 2029, but I prefer we don't go through all that. I don't see how my protest vote has any effect on whether Biden beats Trump, so I am not worried about that.
-
You said he voted with Biden 100%, so doesn't that make him a young Joe Biden? 😀
-
He still has to get by this year. 1 + 4 = 5. I understand that he is good at working with Congress and that is important. You guys are a bunch of policy and congress wonks so you love Biden, but probably less than 10% of Americans even notice. Being able to communicate with the public and having the confidence of the people is also an important quality of a President. His popularity rating is very low and I fear his lack of skills in that area could make him lose to Trump. Fortunately, the majority of people hate Trump too, so Biden still has a good chance.
