  1. They didn't actually get him yet. There are still plenty of opportunities for this to get derailed.
  2. Harold Castro made a major league roster too.
  3. DeSantis and a lot of other Republicans are likely happy with the indictment and anything else that can take him down. They will protest everything that happens, so they can blame the Democrats. This will make them look good to the voters in elections.
  4. I wouldn't make 56 my base prediction, but I don't think it's outrageous to think they might be a horrible team again. Pretty much everyone on the roster is a question mark. I don't think they will have as many injuries this year, but their bullpen could be a lot worse and maybe their young players won't develop. I think a few of them will show progres though.
  5. This is true. Projection systems rarely assume that young players will break out, so I think they are more likely to underestimate than overestimate there. Conversely, bad teams are likely to lose some veterans after the trade deadline which I don't think projections take into account. Another mostly unrelated thing I have often wondered about projections is that they almost never project anyone to have a great season because they push everyone towards the mean. This makes them more likely to be right on average. However, I wonder if maybe the projection systems work better for average players than they do for players at the extremes. There are more people in the middle, so there is more certainty in projections. There are so few great players that I think it's harder to get them right.
  6. That's after the fact though. A sensible projection assumes that crazy stuff isn't going to happen and that players will perform somewhat in line with their past performance. In doing that, you are more likely to be correct than by making a wild ass prediction based on emotion. A wild prediction can be fun, but it's not an argument. If someone can explain why he or she thinks the Tigers will only win 58 games, it might might be a valid argument.
  7. I don't think the people that own this country care about Christianity. They just use Christians and faux Christians to get their ultimate goal of protecting big business interests. They don't really care about banning abortion and stopping "queers". That's what they do to keep the evangelicals in line. Eliminiating consumer protections is more in line with what they want.
  8. Getting the vaccine and the boosters does make it less likely that you'll feel sick and less likely that you'll spread the virus.
  9. He can repeat his 2020 season if he puts up a .448 BABIP again.
  10. Career WAR 0.4. but sure, he's young enough to develop a little more. I'm just glad the Tigers are not going to wait any longer.
  11. Castro can't draw a walk. You can't play on Harris' team if you can't draw a walk unless your Javy Baez and he's stuck with you. Also, he is terrible infielder and doesn't hit well enough to be an outfielder. Most years he doesn't hit enough to be anything.
  12. How could anybody have thought that wrestling was unscripted? I knew it was fake when I was about 9 years old. It's so obvious.
  13. Witherspoon doesn't look like much offensively, but he play centerfield, so there's that
  14. Why do anti-vaxers keep showing this video as if the guy owned Fauci or something? It's OK for him to ask questions, but the guy just seemed to be anti-government and cynical and didn't really have any cohesive argument.
  15. The highlighted porton is most likely correct. I don't think he believes or cares about most of the stuff he says. He is just there to make a buck.
  16. I have worked in the mental health/substance abuse treatment field for years and my colleagues fret any time Republicans are in charge at the state or national level because they know that means that many mental health and substance abuse and mental health treatment programs are going to be shut down.
  17. Thre will be no more hating. It's the law.
  18. I once tried to explain that to a 2A friend and he responded with some statistic about no kids ever getting killed in fires... Maybe that's because the doors were open!
  19. I see that, but they all look like fringe prospects to me. I know part of Harris' strategy is to collect guys like that and hope that one or two can help. As a group, that's a good thing. Individually, I am not going to get excited about one of them.
  20. If he had produced, his reps would not have been limited and inconsistent. Which came the first the chicken or the egg? He has never been a big prospect. If we are lucky, he's the next Don Kelly.
  21. That's just a bit of an exaggeration. McKinstry has a .269 in the majors so far and that is supposed to be his strength.
  22. It's what they know. The devils they know.
  23. Harold Castro is bad. Candelario was good in 2020-2021 and could very well rebound. Maton could be good too, so I'm thinking more about that, but there is a chance we might we might miss Candelario.
  24. That is really surprising given that the Athletics are terrible and Pache was a top prospect as recently as a year ago. Do they have a trade lined up already or is there a personal problem we don't know about?
