  1. Cold feet? So, Correa now has a circulatory problem?
  2. Players don't like him, but I think they dislike him for different reasons than the fans dislike him. For example. I think players dislike his anti-establishment rants whereas some fans are amused by that. On the other hand, fans don't like him, in part, because he is openly disrespectful of women such as when he said that he wasn't interested in having a relationship with a woman. He just wanted to hook up with them. A large percentage of the single players probably feel the same way, but they don't want to hear a teammate blabbing about it.
  3. I'd like to see that too, but I think it's complicated. You would almost have to look at it on a game to game basis because a good pitcher might be having a bad to when a batter faces him or conversely a bad pitcher might be having a good day.
  4. The Tigers still have a shot!
  5. Sure, but it's only been a couple of months. You can't expect dramatic observable changes to a crap organization in that amount of time. Dombrowski took more than a full year before he started making major moves for the Tigers.
  6. The queston I have is whether it is any more predictive than just looking at stats like HR rate or OPS against?
  7. I think K% and BB% are probably the most predictive, but you can get those anywhere. Seeing the percentile for them is helpful. I have not seen any research indicating that the statcast stats are more predictive than FIP. I have seen studies which have show that the x stats are less predictive than FIP. I have not seen anything about the predictiveness of stats like exit velocity and spin rate, but those were not designed to be predictive. They are certainly interesting as descriptives.
  8. There is that, but I think baseball pitcher is the position in sports where I would least worry about that stuff. Anyway, if the Tigers did sign him or trade for him (I know it's not happening) I would assume as a fan that they determined his personality was not a problem.
  9. He's a jerk, but if he contributes to winning games he'd be tolerable. I don't deal with him personally. All I have to do is watch him pitch and look at his stats.
  10. Even if he had donated, it wouldn't have mattered because tax payers still paid him tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars for trips he and his staff made to his golf courses, resorts and hotels all throughout his presidency. His whole presidency was just another money making scam and he's still at it.
  11. Yeah, I like a lot of the things they do in principle, but they would not be an easy team to love. I don't hope for the Tigers end up like them...although it sure beats what the Tigers have been doing the last several years!
  12. It was a joke combining the ideas that you present these charts a lot and Logue has some of the worst percentile ranks I have seen. I think the ranks are interesting and can be instructive in certain cases, but they are not predictive in general.
  13. Zach Logue's numbers are not impressive. I dare chasfh to pull out his percentile charts. On the the bright side, he is a lefty with good control.
  14. He apparently has a good curveball. Curvin' Castro.
  15. I also view the playoffs as a tournament separate from the regular season. However, because teams are not significantly rewarded for regular season performance, pennant races no longer exist which I think is a shame. There is also not much motivation to be a great team when a pretty good team gets pretty much the same reward. It will get worse when they eventually expand to 16 teams and you see .500 regularly getting into the big tournament.
  16. I see the baseball season as unique in that they play almost every day and a team needs to be constructed to handle that. A big part of being a great team is being able to withstand that 162-game grind. A lot of that goes away if there are too many teams in the playoffs. it's like running a marathon, taking the the best 12 runners and then having a series of one-mile runs to determine the winner. It makes no sense.
  17. It was due to an injury. It's not like he mysteriously lost his skills. Still, they need to be really confident that he is completely recovered after his time off.
  18. Why is Harris' wife with Metzler?
  19. How hot is she?
  20. It wouldn't limit playoff teams, because "American sports fans love brackets". It COULD be an alternative if the goal is maintaining interest in cities which have losing teams. This is all theoretical.
  21. So, more of the same. I just hope he does it better and quicker than the previous regime.
  22. No, it's not. Teams that battle for the playoffs do the same thing. They try to achieve the best record so the can advance.
