Detroit Lions 2024 Offseason Thread

I've heard the same. Which makes sense considering he's effectively a rookie. But that's why I would flood him with snaps, because ideally he won't get any in the season. -

I expect Hooker will get the start tonight, but it’s not a given. I think they’re treating him like a rookie this preseason. The nature of having Nate Sudfeld on the team is that you can afford to release him at the end of camp with a really good chance he clears waivers and can come back to you as your practice squad QB3. At that point if God forbid Goff does go down for a few games, you can start Hooker, but you can also call up Sudfeld and start him if Hooker still isn’t ready. I would almost be in favor of letting Hooker play all 12 preseason quarters. I doubt they will, but if he is your QB2 (which at least by the depth chart I think he will have to be, unless they carry three QBs), then just flood him with experience. Sudfeld should not be relying on preseason experience to make the roster in his 9th season in the league. -

Spent the evening re-watching Lions-Rams highlights and I AM HYPE. Bring on the season. -
I think he’s much less of a hot head than he was back in the day. I don’t think it’s humility though I think he’s just aged. I don’t see him getting into an altercation with Jim Schwartz for slapping the dude’s back for instance.

Getting ejected from a joint practice is pretty impressive. -

Still, they might as well have him rehab with the team and not just cut him with an injury settlement. If he heals on the same timeline as CJGJ (which is not a given), he would be back by Week 14 or so. All the same I would still probably prefer to see Moseley in coverage deep in an NFCCG as opposed to Kindle Vildor. -

They tried but we can’t keep penciling a guy like that into the depth chart preseason. It’s not his fault but even our depth needs to be more dependable than this. -
That’s kind of my point. It’s time for the 30 for 30 and Netflix documentary on this. Make the soap opera a profitable drama series. Not time for the NCAA to say “AKTUALLY guyz this is still a very serious situation because they didn’t want to talk to us! 🤓” I agree that Warde should have played nice and blamed Jim Harbaugh for all of these mortal sins the second Harbaugh left Michigan. Probably would have put a stop to the leaks and put Michigan on the road to resolving this.

This is such a 2023 story. Everyone but the NCAA and select rival fans are so completely over this. If Michigan can negotiate any result that doesn’t result in vacating wins or a postseason ban, they should do it. Give Harbaugh a five-year show cause, who cares. Give Sherrone a two-game suspension, whatever. The program needs to move on.

Could be notable for week one if they’re not all back in time. Hutch is licking his chops. -

With Vaki and Manu on the team, I don’t think they will have the luxury of keeping six WRs this year. Setting aside ASB, Jamo, and Kalif, that leaves two spots for probably four players: DPJ, Antoine Green, Isaiah Williams, and Daurice Fountain. If I was to put money on it today, I would say it’s Green and Fountain, with DPJ released and Williams to the practice squad. DPJ failed conditioning and has been getting reps with the 2nd and 3rd team, and even drew the public disappointment of Campbell. We gave up a 6th to get him last year but he needs to be better if he’s going to make the team. -

Happy August! A space for all your predictions - from the bold to the obvious - to sit for bragging rights and embarrassment upon reflection six months from now. From Lions 53-man, to record, to schedule, to Super Bowl predictions. Come one, come all (except Brad Allen).

I think I would put Alim into the Pro Bowl caliber starter category. He's generally underrated by the lay media and public because he doesn't generate as much pass rush as a Chris Jones or Quinnen Williams, but the Lions' dominance against the run is in no small part due to him being an absolute plug in the middle of the line. And he's done it by himself too! I'm excited to see what he can do next to DJ Reader this year. He's a notch below Penei and ASB, who are both on the early road toward being inducted in the Pride of the Lions (and maybe more), but he's a borderline top ten player at his position. RE Iffy, I think he starts on almost any team. PFF (for whatever their rankings are worth) rated him as the 8th best safety in the NFL last year and the very best safety (1/103) in zone coverage. There is a little bit of a "how do we fit him in", but remember CJ Gardner-Johnson throwing a hissy fit because the team wouldn't just pull Iffy off the field once CJGJ was healthy. He'll be on the field plenty this year - particularly in zone coverage - as long as he stays at the same level of play. Barnes and Jefferson I agree. Don't forget we also picked up Jerry Jacobs and Brock Wright as UDFAs in 2021. It was just an insanely good draft top to bottom. -

If this training camp smoke becomes fire and Levi becomes a starter or reliable rotational player alongside Reader and McNeill, the 2021 draft class has to go from not just being the best in Lions history (which it probably already is) to being discussed as among the best in NFL history. -
Looked it up. 1965: 20-3 L v. Washington 1976: 10-7 L v. Denver 1991: 14-3 W v. Denver

Have the Lions ever played in the HOF game? Not that it seems like they'd want to. The Bears playing their backup punter instead of their rookie starter says everything you need to know about their thoughts about playing this game.

I did get a chuckle the other day out of a house with a Trump/Pence sign in their front yard, but with red tape crudely placed over the P and E in Pence’s name to make it Trump/VAnce. The boss wouldn’t appreciate that. He wants your MONEY, not your support.

Football tonight! Tyson Bagent v. Davis Mills, just as God intended a Bears v. Texans game to be.
