  1. He can't manage a clock to save his life. He had a 4th and 1 tied at 13 with 2:10 left on the Bills 20 and went for it instead of going up 3... Worked out, in the sense they gained a yard on a QB sneak, they then had to kick basically the same field goal when they didn't gain a yard on the next series. And then twice on the Bills last possession, he called timeouts that helped the Bills. I think he saved them from a delay of game on one of them. Reminded me of his gross clock mismanagement against the Lions last season.
  2. Robert Saleh is an idiot and I am glad Speilman wasn't interested.
  3. If the Jets somehow win this game, I think it's fair to say the three New York teams had the three worst opening games, despite two of them playing each other.
  4. Actually though Lions-Chargers might get flexed to SNF in week ten. It's currently Jets-Raiders.
  5. NFL officials probably have the game on one screen while actively flexing the Jets out of three of their remaining primetime games on the other screen.
  6. It looked like the LT gave the world's worst cut block on the play that injured Rodgers. It was delayed and the edge rusher just stepped around it, without anyone else picking him up.
  7. I mean, the Giants managed to not kill their 40-year-old quarterback before he could complete a pass, so there is that.
  8. IMO the hold out was well worth it and I salute his standing up for what’s right.
  9. I think their love affair for Charles Harris is fascinating. They named him a team captain, and he saw 80% of the snaps against the Chiefs (compared to 91% for Hutch, 42% for Cominsky, 32% for Houston, and 26% for Paschal), but I only heard his name called once all game. The stats back that up, as he recorded only one tackle and one assist. He showed some flashes of excellence last year before he got hurt. I distinctly remember the strip sack against the Commies in week two last year. Compared to Cominsky, Houston, and Paschal though, all of whom had distinctive big plays against the Chiefs, I'd like to see Harris create more disturbance and have more of a presence if he's going to be on the field 4/5 of the time.
  10. While Campbell's MO over the last few seasons has been for the team to lay an egg in one or two games a season (Bengals and Eagles in 21, Panthers in 22), I think it's often the result of fatigue rather than a stereotypical let-down. I really think this is the right regime to not allow the players to ride too high and overlook an opponent. I think it was telling that Campbell said in his postgame remarks to the team that they have a lot to work on, and you could hear the agreement in the room. This wasn't the Vikings victory in 2021 to go to 1-10-1, where the team rushed the field and danced in the locker room. They were happy and proud to leave with the W, but they know it's just one of 17. I'd be surprised to see them overlook the seagulls.
  11. Starting to feel like that ship has sailed. I'm sure he would do better behind the Lions offensive line, but you'd be hard pressed to find a quarterback who would do worse behind an elite offensive line. They have to decide after this season whether he is worth offering a 5th year option to. He's sitting with an NFL record of 5-21. If he leads them to another mediocre record this year, Eberflus and Poles will be on the hot seat needing to deflect blame, if not outright fired. Fields isn't a great scapegoat for them seeing as they could have had their pick of the litter this past draft, but I also wouldn't imagine a long-term extension would be in the works.
  12. While the Gibbs/Montgomery snap count caught a lot of attention, I thought the WR snap count was interesting too. ASB saw 94%, Josh Reynolds saw 70%, Marvin Jones saw 56%, Kalif Raymond saw 27% (plus five ST snaps), and Antoine Green did not see the field. When Jamo returns, it seems like the obvious answer is to relegate Green to the practice squad, but I would also think that if Jones doesn't improve - and quickly - the answer could just be relegating him to Raymond's share, or even Green's (absent) share.
  13. At the press conference this evening, they only took three questions. The first was about Mark Dantonio, and was pretty much fluff. The second question taken, from Matt Wenzel, was, "I was wondering what the timeline you laid out for the... process of the investigation; I was wondering what changed to make you take action now, given what you knew before." The response was, "Yeah Matt, we are always... evaluating... interim measures were in place, and those interim measures... have been updated... initially they were no contact with the... complainant and then also increased oversight from me of the program but also the coach so... it's an ongoing process and we update those interim measures as we receive information" The third question was from Graham Couch, who asked "was there any consideration once the findings came out - when the investigation was complete in July - and you sort of had the information you do now of - (of) doing what you're doing now (suspending Tucker) - before the season, before it sort of interrupted what's going on with the student-athletes" The response was, "Yeah, for me, Graham, it was, you know, working and waiting on the university as it relates to their investigative process and making sure that they were allowed to complete their investigation, so, although the investigation was complete on the 25th there were still ongoing processes that still need to be played out. I suppose the last nine words to the response to Wenzel, and "ongoing processes" in the response to Couch, could be the quiet part that is getting reported now, but those are such bizarre responses to the questions if the real answer is a problem with the premise of the questions (that MSU leadership had knowledge of the USA Today story details well before they were published). I think I'll take buddha's advice from earlier this afternoon and slow my roll until more information gets revealed.
  14. Agreed on all accounts. It's still early, so lots of time for teams to figure stuff out. But I'd rather be the Lions than the Bears or Vikings today, that's for sure.
  15. If this is correct, I will retract a lot of the shaming I've posted on MSU leadership. Outside of - as Justin said - not screaming this from the rooftops this evening. It would still be a black eye, but it's not the institutional failure I made it out to be.
  16. Except they didn't have to say anything about why he was suspended. When Mark Schlissel got canned, I don't think the identity of his affair was ever released, despite the emails being released, or if the identity was released it was done after a lengthy FOIA suit and without media fanfare. Even today, it's not like they ever mentioned Tracy's name. She chose to come forward with her name. Because on the flip side, what if, now that Tracy did go to the media, multiple staffers or other vendors come forward and say "Mel made me feel uncomfortable over the phone too over the last eight months"... MSU stood by, with knowledge that their coach did this ("this" being either side of the story), and they left him in a position of extremely high authority and influence with the university and athletic department. Clearly they know the behavior is not okay, because they suspended him today! They claim that they monitored the program more closely, but what does that really mean when he admitted to what he admitted to? You're not in his hotel room with him and you're not listening to every phone call.
  17. Seahawks will be looking for a bounce back game after looking really bad against a Rams team that was missing its best weapon. Maybe when they saw Kupp was out they didn't try because they figured Tirico would claim that a win would have come with an asterisk anyway. Seahawks have scored a combined 99 points in the last two matchups between these teams. Here's hoping the Lions new-look defense can at least force one punt, which did not happen last year. Ford Field is going to be ALIVE.

  19. Hurts just coughed up the ball and New England is in a position to come back from 16 down.
  20. Philly's offensive line has surrendered three sacks to New England.... Interesting.
  21. Fields with his second turnover of the day. Sure will put a dent in that MVP season. Hard to get a read on Love when he's throwing to guys who don't have anyone within 20 yards of them.
  22. Chicago looks terrible.
