I think I would have taken LaPorta over Hock even before I knew he would cost $70MM

The Lions just claimed Michael Badgley and I need a beer.

Cardinals claimed Starling Thomas

I’ll be making the trip for this one, I’m excited to see Arrowhead. I expect a very competitive game that is a little sloppy by both teams and could go either way. I don’t expect to see vintage Mahomes (outside maybe a flash or two), and I expect Goff’s streak of zero interceptions to end. I think the offensive line will make even the casual observer say “wow” a few times. We haven’t ever seen this unit as healthy as they are now, because Big V got hurt in the preseason last year. As good as they were last year, the could legitimately be better this year, and Gibbs could make a big splash in his debut as a result. On the defensive side, I’m a little worried for our linebacking corps. I think the Mahomes —> Kelce connection may pick on Anzalone and Campbell and require some safety and nickel help. It’s a tall task to limit Kelce. Given the way CJGJ chirps and the way Kelce has been a hot head in camp, maybe we put those two together and see what comes of it. The biggest question is ultimately going to be cohesion. I’m not super worried about the offense, we are retaining the OC, OL, QB, and WR1. But on the defense, we could be looking at 6 or 7 new faces starting. We will get to see how effective camp was at establishing leadership and getting everyone on the same page. We won’t be able to afford stupid mistakes and holes in coverage.

Agreed. Even all variables aside coming into this specific game, the first few games of every season is a crapshoot while teams figure stuff out and get into the groove. Even if you think the Chiefs are heads-and-shoulders above the Lions (I don’t), worse teams beat better teams all the time in week one. Last year, the Bears beat the 49ers, the Steelers beat the Bengals, the Commies beat the Jaguars, and the Bucs held the Cowboys to 3 points. None of those would be expected in a vacuum, but week one always has unexpected outcomes.

Germain Ifedi was picked up by the Bills

Campbell has always loved him those six-linemen sets. It doesn’t surprise me he would be a believer in the fullback.
-
The 21 offensive players to 29 defensive players split doesn’t seem sustainable. I think they saw more defensive players who may be good trade candidates (i.e., the Okwaras).
-
Patriots waived Malik Cunningham. That could be an interesting addition, as he could be your QB3 as well as a WR, depending on what you want/need.
-
Starling Thomas waived
-
Right. It’s a one-or-the-other scenario. If he clears waivers and goes to the PS, then theoretically at any point they could elevate him to the inactive game day roster from the practice squad if Goff turned an ankle or something in walkthroughs and they wanted a QB3 on standby. But he can’t be both on the PS and the emergency game day QB.
-
They could still pickup someone who was cut elsewhere. It’s what they did with Sudfeld last year when neither Blough or Boyle impressed them.
-
Martinez waived so Lions will only carry two QBs assuming the Sudfeld news gets confirmed.
-
Cardinals waived their presumed starting QB Colt McCoy.
-
Dylan Drummond cut.
-
I think they REALLY like Charles Harris. But the price for Houston has to be enormous. You don’t just trade away someone coming off rookie production like that for pennies.
-
13 cuts overnight, none surprising. Trinity Benson and Germain Ifedi were on the list though.
-
The Bears offensive line sucks but so does their coaching staff. You are probably correct though.

Given the lack of IOL depth on the team (beyond Glasgow), I wonder if the Lions kick the tires here. He’s been a colossal bust to this point, and if he couldn’t make the Bears he probably can’t cut it here, but Mayock and the Raiders weren’t the only ones with a high grade on him. He started at Alabama and won two National Championships. https://x.com/rapsheet/status/1695937734106312951?s=46&t=nM4aynsjXcVmanGRUm_P_A [Rapoport reporting through Elon’s terrible site that Alex Leatherwood is being released by the Bears]

Just to add, I’m not saying this is going to derail the Cowboys season or anything. I just don’t think it’s a move that makes a lot of sense or inspires a lot of confidence in your starting QB two weeks before opening day.

Dak is entering a contract year. Expending relatively significant resources to bring in a former #3 overall pick without any NFL starting experience is going to get in Dak’s ear and is going to cause a stir in the fanbase.

I don’t think I like the super extended reviews generally. I don’t know how long it actually took but it felt like it took forever. If it takes more than two minutes, cut the official’s feed and let the call on the field stand. If we are evaluating when the ball was bobbled, when the pylon was touched, when the ball was regained, and where the ball was in relation to the goal line, all at the same time, we are doing too much - letting cameras officiate the game. Let’s just play football.
