The debate is a completely pointless exercise. There is no game scenario where these two just battle it out one-on-one, KT moving towards a non-existent target and Sewell just pushing him back, while everyone else stands and stares. I’m sure that the exercise is a good workout for each of them (or they wouldn’t be doing it), but it is not designed to really have a ‘winner’ or ‘loser’, unless someone gets knocked on their ass of course. ………..but yeah, Sewell won.

I love how we go from the sky is falling to hitting the jackpot on a day to day basis with Jamo. Gotta love training camp.

It makes me sad that he and Dan couldn’t call a World Series winner. I grew up listening to them. Not that he’s play by play, but the “wow WOW” during the Dan Dickerson Magglio ALCS call still gives me chills.

In theory I think he will be healthy enough to play by November. But with Goff on the roster, I don’t think even Stroud or Young would have played this year, outside of a backup role. Without pulling up statistics, it sure feels like QBs who have had a year to redshirt and learn an offense before getting hit by NFL defensive linemen have a better track record. Mahomes, Rodgers, Brady, and Hurts all come to mind as guys who were allowed to have a slow start to the league.

I think there are multiple possible answers, but it certainly wasn't to be a backup quarterback in 2023.

NFC North QB Power Rankings 1. Jared Goff 2. Kirk Cousins 3. Teddy Bridgewater 4. Justin Fields 5. Jordan Love

In all seriousness I think this is a really good signing on multiple levels. Yes, Bridgewater will provide a quality backup and a chance of salvaging the season if Goff goes down. More than that though (because we all hope that will never come to fruition), I think he will provide quality mentorship to Hooker, and ensure - barring injury chaos - that Hooker won’t be pressured to even dress this year, let alone see the field. Teddy has been a starter in the league, he’s been a quality backup, and (possibly most importantly) he’s resurrected his career from a pretty catastrophic knee injury. Bridgewater was originally supposed to be out for 19 months with his ACL tear and knee dislocation, but returned after about 15 months. I do think there is something to be said for the psychology of that kind of injury, and I hope he is able to pass some wisdom off onto Hooker.

I’m disappointed. I was really looking forward to “SUD-FELD” chants at Ford Field this Friday night.

Raymond is only a lock so far as he is the starting kick/punt returner. I don't think he's a lock as a WR alone. Green and Drummond both seemed destined for a practice squad spot.

I don’t see anything shocking occurring at cuts (granted if I saw them coming they wouldn’t be shocking). Maybe the loser of the Glasgow/Big V competition, but I think they keep them on unless the loser asks for a trade/release. Some familiar names I could see having a less than guaranteed roster spot though are both Okwaras, Iffy, Brock Wright, Levi Onwuzurike, Jerry Jacobs, and Will Harris. I’ll add Kalif Raymond and Josh Reynolds too, though I think they’re helped by JaMo’s suspension. I’m curious if Gibbs gets any reps this preseason at kick/punt return.

I'm not yet convinced that the B1G doesn't want Stanford and Cal to some extent. They check a lot of boxes for the conference, but I think they want them to join on the B1G's terms money-wise. I think they could be waiting to offer Stanford and Cal a really bad deal that they can't refuse. If UW and Oregon have to wait until 2030 for a full share, Stanford and Cal might have to wait until 2050, but they'd still snatch up the opportunity to avoid being left without a raft. I could also see them leveraging Stanford with Notre Dame. Coming to ND with a package like offering to add them along with Stanford, Cal, and Miami. If you have to, throw out a veiled threat of a ten-team conference schedule. As these conferences continue to expand, you would think schools will be less incentivized to play ND on ND's terms. Not to mention they'll make more money in the B1G, it's all about pride at this point.

He deserved better than Patricia. I don't think he ever would have been a Darrelle Revis or Sauce Gardner (... or worth the 3rd overall pick), but he could have been better than he was with a real coach at the helm.

If the Detroit Tigers can play Florida Southern College to start their season, why can't Michigan play West Bloomfield HS if they wanted to?
-
We are getting to the point where the Big Ten has to consider speaking with the SEC about breaking away from the NCAA in football, breaking away from the current CFP, and making their own body. Like the AFC and NFC, meet in the CFP National Championship. We are already at the point with 16 in B1G and 16 in SEC to make a practical 32-team Major League College Football League.

Maybe they’ll prove me wrong, but I don’t think Chicago is nearly as good as they seem to think they are. They aren’t one piece away. Lots of patchwork across the roster.

I don’t think it would work in perpetuity. Though I think they probably hoped that Rutgers and Maryland would be generating more money for the conference by the time they received a full share.

Detroit Lions Offseason Thread 2023

Last year in row 20 I sold two games (Thanksgiving and Vikings) and recouped half my cost for the entire season. I can’t even imagine what row 7 this year will fetch (not that I’m looking to sell). -

Rod Wood just announced on 97.1 that for the first time in Lions history, they are sold out of season tickets. -
Oh I see now. My assumption is that they would rework the deal based on an influx of schools. They might not with just a single addition but if they expanded to 20 or 24 I would think they would want a new deal.
-
Why would it stay the same? Even if Stanford vs. Illinois or Washington vs. Purdue isn’t drawing what Penn State vs. Michigan State does, it’s still a game on regional television, drawing eyes and making money. Ten conference games with their addition may not add 1/4 of what eight conference games makes now, but it won’t add nothing.
-
I think not moving it enough makes sense. I think if you add four teams, you're going to inherently generate more money. Those two extra games in conference play every week don't go unwatched and they don't lose money. I think it's fair to question though if you're Michigan, Ohio State, or USC (among others) whether adding Stanford, Cal, Oregon, and Washington moves the needle in terms of per school compensation. To use made-up numbers, if you have a pie of a billion dollars split amongst 16 schools, you each make $62.5 million. If you add four members who bring you $200 million, you now have a pie of $1.2 billion split amongst 20 schools, where now you each make $60 million. I think that's the concern of the B1G foundational members... If you're a Stanford, Cal, Oregon, or Washington, the day may come where you are offered $10 million in the cemetery of the PAC-12. At that point, it seems logical to accept a deal where you take $25 million in the B1G, while the other 16 split the remaining $1.1 billion. Everyone gets more money, though the newcomers on a pretty crappy end of the stick.
-
I think more teams = more games = more eyes = more TV money. The question is whether that add money makes 1/x+1 increase. I think the remaining PAC schools ultimately take a lesser cut to avoid being homeless.

Could be an interesting attribute when running routes if Goff can still see him -
Can't wait until technical issues affect the CBS broadcast and bars nationwide turn to Nickelodeon.
