Gun to my head, yes. If I am Holmes and I have the choice though, I wait. Not that I don't have faith in him, but I want to see what I've got in Hooker first (even if just in practice), and I want to see how far Goff can get us this year. If he meets or surpasses expectations, he's going to get a monster deal, and he'll have earned it.

Is there any data supporting that night games are more dangerous or result in more dangerous behaviors (e.g., binge drinking)? I feel like if young students are going to drink on game days (which, spoiler alert, they are), it might even be better for that drinking to be spread out across a day where they are eating, are active, and are doing stuff, rather than them waking up at 6:00am to start drinking before a noon start and be plastered by 10:00am. I could see arrest data increasing with night games, but there is a chicken and the egg problem there because you're increasing the time of the event. Of course more arrests will occur from 12:00pm to 12:00am on a night game day event than from 9:00am to 4:00pm on a noon game day.

We are probably going to get to see like two or three quarters of Nate Sudfeld football on August 11th. Can't imagine Adrian Martinez will get more than a cursory glance, he's destined for the practice squad if he makes the team.

I like Mahomes less and Cousins more through four episodes. I find Cousins' wife unbearable though.

Cautious optimism scares me. If I put my hand on the stove again will it burn me?

This is more Lions Luck than CJGJ getting hurt on a football play.

If I had to guess, his team of rehabbers wherever he lives wanted another week with him to get to a better stopping point and he'll transition to Lions staff rehab at the end of the week. I'm sure his rehab won't just abruptly end when he reports to camp.

On the Moseley front:

****ing of course.
-
If Moseley can't go it will be between Jerry Jacobs, Will Harris, and UDFA Starling Thomas to battle it out in the preseason. I don't love the idea of any of them covering any receiver being thrown to by Mahomes in week one.

I also think a piece of it is that so many football games are decided by one score or fewer that when you are the “worse” team (or the team that “should” lose the game) you need to steal a possession or two. And one way to do that is being aggressive on 4th down. I wouldn’t be surprised as this season progresses and we play teams that we are better than and should beat, if we play a little bit more conservatively than in years past. When you’re the “better” team coming in, your priority is taking care of the football, not making stupid mistakes, and taking the points that are given to you. That doesn’t mean you’re punting on 4/1 from the opposing 35, still trust your offense. But if you have more talent and do those things, you’ll win the game across four quarters much more often than not. -

I just want a guy who they can semi-confidently trot out for a 50-yard attempt on a 4th and long. -

RE backup QB, I think they want to see what Sudfeld brings to the table before spending any sort of big money on a backup. If the timeline is roughly as expected, that Hooker could compete for QB2 by mid-season, then you’d be paying Bridgewater or whoever a lot of money to hold a clipboard for half the season, and have that task not even be a need for the other half of the season… Sudfeld knows Ben Johnson and the playbook better than anyone but Goff by now, so you might as well see if he can at least be competent in the role during camp and the preseason. He’ll probably play nearly entire games in the preseason. RE kicker, that surprised me too, but if I had to guess there was a lot of internal debate regarding the Badgley vs. Patterson decision last year, and they reflected on the last year in total and decided that there was no decision to be made this go around. I think it’s Patterson’s job. -
I don’t think the NFL “allows” this per se, but I do think they will react less harshly. After what happened with Ruggs, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Addison get a game or two suspension based off the personal conduct policy.

I’ll take gambling on non-NFL games from a hotel over this reckless behavior 10/10 times.

Without looking at the Jets message boards, my guess is their reaction is similar to what ours was when the Falcons acquired Okudah for cheap. I don’t expect much out of Mims, but he’s worth the price paid. ASB/Jamo*/Jones/Mims/Raymond/Reynolds/Green -

Benson was a flash in the pan during preseason that just never translated to play against the first string. This is definitely different from that (not that that means this will work). We were lacking depth at the position after half the group decided to gamble their careers away. I think it makes sense. Or Antoine Green had the worst first day of training camp for any rookie ever. -
I agree that by this definition hazing should be handled swiftly and strongly and that there is no excuse for it, just as there is no excuse for bullying. Some institutions have (or at least utilize it) a definition much more broad than that. For instance, the fraternity advisor at my undergraduate school once told me that four guys, all of legal drinking age, drinking on a couch and playing video games, could be considered hazing if one of the four guys was an incoming member or incoming leader to a mutual social group (not just fraternities). Because he could plausibly in some nonexistent reality feel coerced into the drinking. Personally, I just call four guys drinking on a couch and playing video games pathetic. Not hazing. 🙂
-
What’s the operational definition of hazing? I’m not defending hazing by any means, but I think the conversation behind what is acceptable in social groups, on teams, on college campuses, etc., and what is not, has to be grounded in some shared understanding of what that word means. It seems murky at the institutional level.

This feels desperate on the part of the Titans and like a money grab on the part of Hopkins. Let's see how that works out for both sides.
