Michael Badgley is doing well. Seems a good candidate to cut next training camp. -

Speilman just announced at halftime that the Lions will be installing an eight-foot statute of Barry in Ford Field. Wonder why they didn’t bring Sheila out again?? -

I don’t understand the catch rule but I wasn’t surprised to see that call stand. -

About 60,000 clowns in the Ford Field crowd today for Halloween. Most are wearing Honolulu blue. -
I’m old enough to remember when Spartans fans wanted Devon Bush arrested for dragging his cleats along their precious logo. I’m sure they’ll demand accountability here too.

I have a 42-10 Michigan win as my prediction. Close for a little before M (literally) runs away with it. Hope I don’t eat this post.

If he intentionally retweeted that, then I'm okay with discipline. It's uneducated and hurtful to the Jewish community and there is no place for it in Michigan athletics. If he did it accidentally (which can happen), then it should be addressed with a statement condemning it (as it looks like was already done) and everyone should move on. I was friends with a student-athlete in undergrad who is a pro athlete now. They once retweeted a racist image in an uncanny resemblance to what happened here. I was (among) the first to notice it, knew there was no way they meant to post it, and I showed it to them. They were mortified that it had happened and instantly deleted it, then retweeted a post from the team account that they had been in from earlier in the year, supporting BLM... And that was that. No one "important" ever saw it and it never made news, though I'm sure it would have had the right (wrong?) people seen it. Accidents do happen when you're on social media enough, especially when a single click on a single part of the screen is enough to retweet.

Week Seven: Detroit Lions (1-4) @ Dallas Cowboys (4-2)

I see your point too. It's fully possible our defense still would have "collapsed to the occasion" even without the injuries, which occurred primarily on the offensive side. I think my ultimate point is that they're better than their record indicates. Power rankings are inherently trivial, because on any given Sunday the #30 team could beat a top-5 team. Where exactly you plug them is certainly liable to bias. -

You named these as draft needs, and generally I would agree with the list. I would add tight end, given a decision needs to be made on Hockenson, and I would have maybe a slightly different order. I would expect the Lions to play a larger role in free agency this offseason though. I think they expect to contend for the playoffs next season, and they are not going to just patch any holes next year, like they did with Chark, or by re-signing Anzalone. Particularly on defense, I would expect us to explore some of the better free agents. JJ Watt will be available if he doesn't retire. If he'd be willing to move to Detroit, he could be a huge veteran presence on the team, even if he's not what he once was. -

I think they'd be 4-2, maybe 3-3, if fully healthy. They've played a top five team in the Eagles and three top 16 teams in the Vikings, Cowboys, and Patriots. I don't think it's crazy to put them around the bottom of the top 15 (if they were healthy). -
2022 Detroit Lions Regular Season Thread
MichiganCardinal replied to 1984Echoes's topic in Detroit Lions
I'd like to get him into some game action this year, just to get his feet wet, but the timetable should be as slow as he needs. Kid has the potential to be the best player we have had since Calvin, no need to f- that up by rushing him onto a losing team. -

I’m cool with this just because I want a Lions Hooker jersey.

A lot can and will change before April, which is why I’m hesitant to discuss draft before even half the season is over. With all the talk that an 8-9 NFC team could make the playoffs, what if the Lions go 7-4, and… ok I’ll stop. (This was a joke please no one come after my family). If we are entertaining draft talk though, I think anything reasonable could be considered. I won’t tell you we should pick up Stroud in the 2nd round. I think it’s reasonable though that Anderson could be there at the top of the draft for the Lions pick and Levis still there around Mahomes/Fields territory (10ish), at which point I would strongly consider moving up with the Rams pick. Which I’m sure would trigger all sorts of talk about how we must not be confident he’s QB1 if he wasn’t even our first pick…. But I think Anderson may be the closest you’ll get to a sure-fire All Pro in any draft.
-
It's quite possible that by April I agree with you. As it stands today, my ideal first round would let us pick up Anderson and Levis. That's certainly subject to change.
-
I don't think Washington has anywhere near the level of offensive talent that the Lions do.
-
To be clear, I'm also not opposed to taking a QB... as of 10/25/2022 I think the team has multiple needs, especially on defense, and I think a playmaking linebacker may be the largest. A healthy Lions team with a league average defense could be 4-2 right now (Eagles and Patriots notwithstanding)... I think Will Anderson is as close to a sure-thing as you can get in an NFL draft. His potential is greater than that of Micah Parsons, and I have seen multiple comparisons to Von Miller... With Hutch, Anderson, and Okudah as your three leaders of the layers to the defense, I think you're finally building a defense that, with a few more pieces, could even be better than average. That doesn't mean that I'm excluding QB from the list of needs. I'm not convinced on either Stroud or Young though as NFL talents. I like Will Levis a little more, but not more than I like Will Anderson. We also have a second pick. If we took Anderson with the first and a QB (Levis) with the second, I would be fine with that (as of today), even if we trade up to get that QB.
-
As of 10/25/2022, I would rather the Lions draft Will Anderson than either CJ Stroud or Bryce Young.

I don’t think the Lions are the worst team in the league. I think they’re around #25 with their injury depleted roster and around #15 when fully healthy. It doesn’t make it feel any better that they’re 1-5. -

I hate the Astros as much as the next guy. But keeping the streak of the Yankees missing the World Series alive is pretty sweet.
