  1. Why would anyone be upset by Reyes getting axed? Career offensive WAR after five seasons .7 WAR Career defensive WAR after five seasons -.6 WAR 2022 salary $1,400,000 What we are discussing here is an overpaid AAA player being sold to the fan base as a bona fide major league player. Kudos to Scott Harris for doing what should have been done 2 years ago.
  2. No that is not me. I just thought that this was the closest video I could find that personified "insane Scottish Bagpiper".
  3. Is this one of Al's can't miss Tiger prospects? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-Op1Mng4oY
  4. The Tigers haven't fielded a team that can reasonably be expected to be mediocre ((i.e., 81 wins) for some time. I am not too concerned where or how the organization finds better players. Do it now, because I am tired of watching this ridiculous and insane collection Scottish bagpipers trying to impersonate ball players.
  5. Nothing like the sound of good 'ole Anglo-Saxon in the morning.
  6. This hits the nail on the head. We have maybe 3 or 4 position players on the 26 man roster that would make a mediocre (81 wins) team. That means as of the close of the 2022 season, at least 9 of the position players would not have a role on a mediocre team, let alone a playoff team. On the 26 man , as of the end of 2022, there are only 8 or 9 players, including the pitchers I would consider major league quality for a mediocre team.
  7. We have a 40 man roster with 2 Castros, Kody Clemens,Zack Short, and a player named Miggy. So far, I see another 5 to 7 players who need to be gone.
  8. Barnhart would be a marginal improvement over Raul Casanova.
  9. With respect to whether Barnhart or Norris having been offered contracts seems unclear. The election of free agency by both shows up as transactions in MLB sources.
  10. I did not want to see Norris or Barnhart Back, so to see both electing free agency is a hopeful sign.
  11. Cobb-Greenberg-Gerhinger-Kaline
  12. This off-season, so far, is looking good. Barnhart and Norris have elected free Agency. Since the end of the season the projected 40 man roster continues to look better.
  13. The Yankees. He will easily make up the difference in endorsements.
  14. The answer to your question is yes, of course.
  15. As of now, if Sportac is correct we have a 45 million dollar payroll after one subtracts that boat anchor named Miggy. There is a league minimum of 720K this year. Multiplying 40 times 720 yields 28.8 million. 26 times 720k is 18.7 million. I am not sure whether the 40 man gets league minimum, I assume it does. The Tigers have a minimal payroll and even if one suspects a lingering COVID impact on the gambling and hospitality holdings of the Illitches, there would seem to be room to pick up some folks to make the team more entertaining.
  16. I probably should stop squawking about wanting Miggy gone, but it is based upon an organizational necessity of clearly communicating that there are no exceptions in the pursuit in excellence. The front office has been a country club for some time and Harris has addressed part of that issue. For organizational health reasons I want Miggy gone. It is nothing personal. I wish Miggy well.
  17. Amen brother !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An organization with marginal competence would have identified, attracted, obtained, trained, and retained the correct personnel to be successful. Money, schmoney. Show me some fundamental organizational competence first.
  18. I am very much buoyed up given the front office changes on the scouting and development side, as this area of the Tigers has been horrible since 1973. They simply haven't been able to identify, attract, obtain, train, and retain quality players strongly enough to win. Monet is important, but it will take only so far if the rest of the organization is a fucked up mess.
  19. I am 99% in line with the guys you have leaving. The one exception is Miggy, and I want him gone immediately. With the position players we have, Haase, Greene, Tork, and Carpenter are probably what I look to build around. With everything else, if another and better option can be found, take it. I am leaning toward keeping Schoop and replacing Candy. My gut says we aren't going to get an average mlb performance from Candy in '23.
  20. While I tend to agree with this in principle, I think that there are required changes to make this team better. We have a team that has been mired in sub mediocrity for rapidly almost a decade. Are there any changes that we can agree upon that need to be made? Reading through this thread, one could almost think that we have been talking about a 90 win team.
  21. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2022/10/25/detroit-tigers-hire-rob-metzler-tampa-bay-rays-scott-harris/69589372007/ Tigers hire Rob Metzler as assistant GM.
  22. So far my wish list of changes has taken place, Coolbaugh is gone. Chadd is gone. Kevin Rand is gone. The next thing for me is to learn how Harris will define "calculated risk".
  23. I think this discussion on Candy does depend upon how one evaluates, or, more precisely, how one perceives risk. It looks like, after having given 2022 AL regular season stats a quick glance, it will take a .700 team OPS to be in contention for a playoff spot. To have a Tigers team OPS of .700 or over as of today is not likely at all for the 2023 season as currently constructed. There should be steps to move toward that objective though. I am not convinced that Candy or any currently known replacement fulfills that need. I think that he isn't worth 7 million based on performance. Do you bet with Candy and keep him, or do you bet against him and cut ties with him? I cut ties in some fashion and gamble on someone else.I will spend that money and every dime coming off the payroll this year plus more if I were running the show.
