  1. I want one SP for sure, maybe 2. Maybe Mize makes it back. Maybe he doesn't. We need a longer lineup and a quality bat is indicated. Chris I , you have Miggy, (32m),Schoop (7m), Boyd (10m), Meadows (4m), probably Erod (15m), and that's 69 million off of payroll. Spend some money wisely.
  2. I think a reasonable approach this off season would be to get one bonfire SP, One solid reliever, and a legitimate infield bat.Assuming ERod walks, add one SP of some caliber.
  3. I am late to the party on this one, but here goes. I give Harris a guarded B overall.I think he has gotten development portion of the puzzle heading in the right direction. Player acquisition during the last year is more than likely an ownership issue as I think that the cash commitments of the Illitch empire might be over extended due to the lagging effects of covid. I just don't think that the Illicth empire has as much maneuvering room on the cash front as many think. There have been some wrong decisions on players such as Schoop. Those are largely the result of someone new to the scene On the Erod episode, it looks like to me that ERod might have given them a go ahead on the trade, and his agent tried to leverage more bucks after the initial agreement. I still view it as a Harris failure, as I am a solid proponent of the first rule of management, which states, "It's all your fault." Good management always has an alternate plan and always assumes the worst. I think the next year will be better, and it will reveal what we really have in Harris.
  4. Java Baez will fill the role of having an overplayed sub replacement player on the roster for years to come.
  5. I definitely agree. As historic as Miggy's career has been, he shouldn't have been playing this year. There are many others as well.
  6. I like the move. I think the club under the Alivia years was too complacent regarding marginal performances.
  7. I was sad to hear the news of Jim's passing. Rst in peace.
  8. After reading the Erod comments, and chewing this trade deadline over, I think that several things seem to make sense to me. 1) GM's were used to rolling Alivia on a regular basis. Harris has attempted to make his personal MO to be one that he means what he says. This will serve the organization well in the future. The Tigers are no longer everyone's trade batch. 2) My speculation is that ERod is under tremendous pressure to make his money closer to home. That pressure is coming from his wife and whatever the true nature of such a force, it is his private matter and should stay so. I don't think this is a failure on Harris so much as a change of heart by ERod after a deal was almost complete. Either way, ERod will probably always require extra effort from the front office until he is playing near home. I would hope that Harris can find a solution to this, but, until ERod is playing for a Florida team, assuming his family lives in Miami, this will be a continuing problem. Let the chips fall where they may Scott, but, you have bigger fish to fry in getting the Tiger's house in order.
  9. I had no problems of getting rid of both Candy and Schoop last season. I was wrong about Candy because I thought he would not bounce back. But on current affairs, how would you feel if there was no trade at the trade deadline? I do think there will be one.
  10. This is the most sensible post regarding Carpenter that I have read
  11. I don't give a flying leap at a rolling donut for what Hinch has in mind for Maton. Let's sweep these bastards!
  12. Agreed. Pitchers almost seem certainly to have TJ surgery these days at roughly 3 years in. I think it makes more sense to develop position players and draft pitchers late. You then sign pitchers on short term deals and then , and only then nail down an FA pitcher when club performance makes a championship run possible.
  13. Maybe there is a feeling by Harris and company that it is time to create a wave after Kieth and Parker meadows. I will pencil him in at 2027.
  14. I hope this is the low tide moment of this season, but somehow I doubt it. The way this team handled their at bats tonight, did someone make Baez the hitting coach and I missed the memo?
  15. There's no intent by the Tiger's brass to reach the playoffs,or even a winning record this year. If there is a decent return pitching will be traded
  16. Zepo Marx, in the movie "Horse Feathers" famously said, "To have a good football team, you have to have good football players." To which Groucho replied, "I think you're on to something." That same sentiment applies to baseball.
  17. Players only broadcast means never-ending verbal manure.
  18. an 81 win team requires 26 guys averaging 1.1 WAR each. A realistic look reveals we are perhaps a dozen players away, an absolute minimum of 6. I am not asking for Mike Trout clones. I am asking for a collection of players statistically possible to reach 81 wins
  19. Well, as I look at it, We are a catcher, 3b,2b,one OF, 2 SPs and a quality DH away from being counted on to cross the .500 barrier to the extent that a playoff spot becomes possible. That is six guys we are short. I expect our next reasonable window to start in 2025.
  20. Harris has made it clear there was no intention to compete for anything this year. It is an experimental year to find out what pieces fit where. When a couple of sub .200 hitters cannot or will not be out right released, or something else will not be tried, there just reallay anything to say because things speak for themselves.
