Flaherty has pitched 55 good innings for LAD, he was a little better in Det, but regardless, Hinch covered those 55 innings just fine. (with added bonus of getting 3 young arms some ML experience). assuming Javy would have season-ending surgery in either scenario, having Sweeney as SS is a HUGE part of the surge; I don't think it would have happened with Kreidler and McKinstry at SS

The Athletic article on the god awful CWS is interesting. I had forgotten that when Drunk Tony LaRussa was announced as manager, AJ Hinch's signature was included on the press release announcement. Clearly management was going to hire AJ before Reinsdorf overruled them. Just one of many butterfly effects that brings us to today.

FWIW, Workman also homered in the playoffs. To me, it is easy to see CWS pick Workman; probably some other teams as well. Good problem to have; teams with deep farms systems often need to make some consolidation trades or risk losing some (admittedly marginal) talent for nothing.
