Stroman fell just 101 innings short of triggering $18M player option for next year.

no one knows; one way to address the uncertainty is to bring in 6 more arms and hope a larger pool of candidate = an increased number of effective pitchers
-
hard pass on that. you know who people liked dealing with? Idiot trader Al Avila. One reason Harris is not well liked is that he has literally won almost every Tigers trade he has made, and people are pissed he did not settle for less, or will not give up prospects who other teams really want.
-
but they didn't trade him - maybe they know what they had. All I know is that Alex Faedo, Matt Manning, Beau Burrows and Joey Wentz are going to round out a dominant starting rotation anchored by Casey Mize! They are going to have to move Wilmer Flores to the bullpen because there is no room!
-
they will cruise to AL Central title, and adding 7 arms will help make sure that happens. Team Harris zigged when other were zagging. I see the real value in what they did. but the bullpen is not impressive. they have 3 guys - Vest, Finnegan and Holton - who you can sort of count on and Holton is down from last year. Maybe Melton joins them, but he's a rookie. Maybe all 4 are shoving come late September. Maybe not. I don't understand the "you can't build for the post-season" crowd; that what all the good GMs in baseball were doing today - building their team up for the post-season. well, almost all of them.

the August schedule is looking nice; just 2 difficult series @Phil Minn LAA @CWS @Minn Hous KC @Sac @KC

so if they meet in the playoffs, the Tigers are fortified by Finnegan, and the Astros are fortified by Correa so if they meet in the playoffs, the Tigers are fortified by Finnegan, and the Yankees are fortified by Bednar
-
that was by default; they had no one else
-
Correa to Houston - I hope it was a serious offer!

in Hoosiers, Coach Dale won it all with the team he had, but if a 6-11 Norwegian kid showed up because his dad was going to retrofit the dairy, he would not turn him away
-
no one knows what Pitts wanted, but Harris could have easily topped the Yankees package IMO
-
not a crazy approach; get 6 new arms, hope 1 is dealing come October.

yes. but have to believe they can replace him by his expected 2027 eta Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 40 | Control: 45 | Overall: 40 Like fellow Tigers pitching prospect Troy Melton, Randall was a catcher growing up before taking his strong arm out from behind the plate and onto the mound. After two years in the bullpen at the University of Arizona, he transferred to the University of San Diego and became a workhorse starter and hit the scouting radar. The Tigers selected him in the third round and signed him for a $700,000 bonus, then gave him a cameo appearance with four innings at Single-A Lakeland at season’s end. Randall is a classic power sinker-slider pitcher with a low three-quarter delivery and rotation, but he actually saw an uptick in his strikeout rate when he became a starter at San Diego. His heavy sinker sat around 94-95 mph but has been known to ramp up to 98 and induces a ton of ground balls. His high-spin slider is a nice swing-and-miss pitch off the sinker. He has a feel for a changeup, but his ability to develop it could determine whether he ends up a starter or reliever as he advances. Part of what separated Randall as a starter in college was his ability to repeat his stuff and hold his velocity late into starts. The Tigers want to give Randall a chance as a starter, with a repertoire and style that compares to former Cleveland starter Justin Masterson. But with Randall’s big body frame and sinker/slider approach, he draws a natural comparison to current Tigers reliever Jason Foley. He’s older for his Draft class, which gives him a chance to move through the lower levels quickly if he has success.

I suspect that is it from Team Harris
-
getting Fister from Seattle set the Tigers back a generation, even though I cannot recall any of those 4 guys names
-
1, 3, 13, 17 from a top heavy organization
-
SD trades #3 overall prospect De Vries (+ 3 more) to get Miller and Sears. So it would have had to have been Clark or McGonigle going out if Harris wanted Miller.
-
Mason Miller to Padres
-
no idea if Manning ever had any real trade value; now he has none
-
I wonder if the sweep of a horrible Diamondbacks team gave Harris the idea that he did not need to do anything other than some more waiver wire moves? possible that both Montero and Sewald would have been released in favor of younger arms if their teams continued to crater
-
there was an article a few years ago on ESPN about how trade deadline pickups energize any team/lockerrroom. when management and ownership say they are committed to winning that's good; players want to see that, not hear that though. barring disaster, the AL Central looks under control, but some of their potential playoff opponents have made real improvements. switching Bednar for Enns, Jackson, Lee makes them objectively better. the players would all see that.
-
So Montero replaces Enns? Montero's advanced #s much better than ERA; has some velocity; BBs are a problem
-
OK then; is this guy any better than any rando arm currently at Toledo?
