It would make sense to pitch Skubal on short rest if he was set to pitch game three because then you could get two starts instead of one. Moving from two starts to starts changes nothing.

If we're parting with Clark and McGonigle it would be to acquire a player like Skubal where we're gonna have them for 3 playoff runs. Hopefully we just sign him in free agency. A 2-3-4 of Greene-Vlad Jr-Carpenter would be a lot of fun.

You don't give up that much value for players with one year of control, it's really that simple. Vlad is absolutely someone Id love the Tigers to acquire, he's a perfect fit for exactly what the current young core needs. But I'm not giving up any top 50 prospect for one year of control.
