The Tigers are playing basically how the team was designed to start the season..they just had a 4-21 stretch where everything went wrong. Offense was ok when healthy, now it's reliant on guys who aren't consistent enough aside from McGonigle and Dingler.
This is why you can't go 6-21....I'm not upset about these losses. They can't handle a decent lefty starter with what they have. The Yankees won two low event games with slugging. Tigers countered with station to station.
Tigers haven't won a game scoring 3 or fewer runs since May 15th vs Toronto(3-2). The bullpen is awful and defense is putrid.
They have no chance in a low event/low scoring game. Good fight to get the lead but they weren't getting 6 clean outs.
He's either doing this Jones thing to prove a point or he is on borrowed time. Either way, you cannot burn Carpy in the 4th inning where you will need 8+ runs. This is abysmal.
There is no chance that their models projected that Jahmai Jones was going to repeat his outlier platoon from last year. But you keep him around becuase there is no risk associated with him...and if he fails maybe another 4A platoon guy drops off the back of a truck. But we have to watch a guy 2 for his last 40 in advantageous platoon situations..I guess we are the suckers.
The ability to truthfully assess your own roster is a huge skill for good execs...Malignant optimism is a thing. Every guy will repeat last year and we will bang our head against the wall doing the same thing until it's too late.
