  1. McGonigle is getting the day off.
  2. You can rip Harris for a lot of things...the bullpen construction on its own is fireable.
  3. This was supposed to Skubal's triumphant sendoff year. We get to the playoffs, make a run, and he rides off to greener pastures. Instead, we are done in June and it's a death march to his trade. Such an institutional failure from so many people in this organization. It just sucks all around....but i guess things never work out ideally.
  4. Did we reach a consensus that he bungled the E-Rod Dodgers deal or not? I know there was some mixed reporting on that. They did a soft buy last year; Now they have to do a pretty hard sell. Can he create a market and get value for a bunch of these guys once they are ready to concede?
  5. blurb from Ken Rosenthal's column about the pending Skubal firesale.
  6. The Paddack and Morton deals just follow the Harris inertia style of management..low-risk, nothing moves. The passage of time and eventually things will turn around...optionality, flexibility, sustainability. They don't have to pick a lane. If this is a draft and development shop, you can't have so much dead weight on the payroll. If it's a go for it shop, you have to self scout and realize that some of the platoon/pinch hit guys have to be churned through.
  7. By design, this team has no bad contracts and should be flexible for all kinds of deals. Let's see if the gm who hasn't made a meaningful baseball trade can pivot into a soft rebuild.
  8. Ty Madden will be called up and start tomorrow.
  9. This is also a direct shot at the general manager's horrendous bullpen:
  10. They had 6 innings to tack on runs last night..and basically did nothing. This stretch is a combination of devastating injuries, bad luck and their platoon/interchangeable parts team build all crashing in on itself. They have the 2nd worst pinch hitting production in baseball. The guys who are supposed to be platoon advantages can't repeat it, and their fringe roster guys have been terrible. No wins on the margins.
  11. -7th walk off loss -0-5 in extra innings; 5-12 in one run games.
  12. Perfect ending..he got the first two outs and runner did not advance...and could not finish the job. Jansen has done that at least twice.
  13. the Tigers are not going to admit defeat for a month and a half..but it's over.
  14. For Jack standards, that was a decent start.
  15. You had to expect that Greyson Rodriguez would find his stuff in this game..after being awful in his first few starts.
  16. The other problem is the lack of right handed power throughout the game. Tork would be gobbled up by another team real quick.
  17. Bad bullpen, bad offense and defense, starting pitching aside from Jack has been fine:
  18. Tork and Wenceel would be gone in a normal roster year. Now they are just stuck playing these corpses every night.
  19. Their roster has been ravaged by injuries and underperformance that they can't punish abhorrent defensive effort and lack of hitting execution. This team is DOA for the season. The injuries started the downturn but there is something rotten with the core of the team that needs to be looked at. They counted on linear development from certain guys that never came. Their judgement in pro scouting has ben pretty poor also. Time to look to the next era.
