Holton and Vest were the two biggest culprits in the 7th. They are going to be used in leverage in the playoffs. But you needed more.

The offense did the best it could against a great staff...bullpen was given leads in the 7th and 8th and failed...not much to say.

I suspect the bullpen guys they brought in are to replace guys like Kahnle, who has been awful for a few months. They may not have upside but can't be worse than him.

Yes this is true. At some point, they need to be ruthless and trade one of their core guys to make room for the prospects. Or they need to sign them. If the goal is to be as flexible as possible, you have to make tough choices. I'm not talking about Skubal..his situation is separate.

I want more run prevention...don't see a real offensive swing that will change much.

Conversely, you have a good team and real weaknesses in the back end of your bullpen. You might not be as healthy next year and the AL might be not be as wide open. You have to give your team the best shot to do something special. They want to build a sustainable product where they have playoff/competitive teams every year. This is one of those chances.

He got the Jack Flaherty deal...$20 million each in '26 and '27, $ 3 mil signing bonus and $3 million buyout before '28.
