  1. You have to admit, kicking a football through goalposts is one of the weirdest things about football. I kind of agree with Larry David on this. It's sort a of side act that has nothing to do with the game on the field. You have these highly skilled, freak athletes fighting their way toward an end zone against other freak athletes trying to stop them. If they get close enough but can't put it in... then it's like bringing out a chimpanzee - who's not an athlete but is on the team to do one thing: cartwheel through a hoop. If the chimp cartwheels through the hoop successfully, it can decide the game. That's about how much sense it makes
  2. Looks like it'll be Fields at QB
  3. One other thought… we heard Campbell in the presser, again, talk about communication problems on the defense. So we’re still talking about communication problems on the defense? After 9 games? I also thought it was interesting when Campbell said after the Baltimore blowout that certain players on defense need to be more disciplined, especially when playing contain. You have to lay these issues at Glenn’s feet. I don’t mean to harp on the guy, but I don't think it’s just the players. It's been an awesome season and there's really nothing at all to complain about. I just think this could be a concern in the postseason
  4. I think you're right about all that, but it just seems whenever they face a good QB and a halfway decent offense this year, it’s not like Glenn’s defense gets beat. They get absolutely blown off the field. Like, 2008 Lions blown off the field. They added Sutton, they have some talented young players in Branch, Joseph, Campbell, Hutch, Alim... is it all them? Or is Glenn simply being out coached? Until LA finally scored a touchdown, that goal line stand by the Lions was amazing. I think there’s definitely talent on that defense. And Glenn is good against the run - I’ll give him that. Yet the Seattle, Baltimore, and LA games… I just find it hard to believe the LBs and secondary are THAT bad. There’s something else going on
  5. 1970 is still the best Lions team in my lifetime. They were a legit Super Bowl team, and honestly should've won it that year. That Dallas game was just.... weird. I have no words. 1983 wasn't bad. Not sure they were a SB team, but they had a puncher's chance. Had Eddie Murray not missed that field goal against the 49ers in the playoffs... Pretty sure you'd agree they had some decent seasons in the 90s, but their main problem (besides no QB) was the NFC dominated most of that decade with so many good teams. Plus the division they played in - the Packers were really good, the Vikings were good. Other than a quirk 2014 season, they've pretty much sucked since. Until now 🙂
  6. 😄 😄 Want to know how to spot the old geezers on this forum? Look for double-spacing between sentences. It's an old carryover from the manual typewriter days. Everyone was taught to double space back then to offset the problem of monospaced typesetting. It has nothing to do with punctuation (single-spacing has always been correct). Word processors eliminated the need for double-spacing decades ago. After around 1990, any typing class still teaching to double-space after a sentence was way behind the times. And sorry all you curmudgeons, but don't even go there with me. I use to run a tech publishing department. I get this all the time. Single-spacing is correct, double-spacing is NOT, and hasn’t been since forever. Print, web... you name it, every professional publication out there correctly single-spaces between sentences. And it’s been that way for years and years. If you don’t believe me, go look for yourself. Even Microsoft Word’s spell check flags double-spacing as an error
  7. That was the Oilers game. Same one he karate kicked at the end of that run
  8. Blew out his knee on Minnesota's field, actually. Caught his foot in an open seam (their turf in that stadium was really, really bad). I remember that game too, and his injury sent me into a corner with my Vodka bottle. I didn't drink it though. Just sat there for hours, staring at the wall, holding that bottle like little baby Jesus. I mean, imagine Barry going down with a career-ending injury after only 5 seasons. End of Barry, that's it. Over. Gone. It was like that. Sims WAS the Lions back then, just like Barry was in the 90s
  9. It's Glenn. Keenan Allen tears up the field, goes out with an injury, Chargers don't miss a beat and keep tearing up the field - without their best offensive weapon. When guys like Gus freakin' Edwards can burn you for an 80 yard play, that isn't talent. It's scheme. It's Harbaugh knowing exactly what to do to easily toy with Glenn's defense, and it was embarrassing
  10. Gotta love that new nickname for the Lions' backfield: "Rhythm and Bruise"
  11. Kind of reminds me of 2012-13 Stafford. Throw for a ton of yards, but also throw a lot of boneheaded picks
  12. Pretty sure it's the drops. He's really good over the shoulder. It's the hands-up catches he has trouble with
  13. As long as they don't have a letdown trap game against one of these upcoming sh*t teams
  14. I'm still holding out hope for Jamo. He made some solid contributions today. Just not enough to justify what he cost the team in draft capital. Somehow the bar for him has gotten real low
  15. At the other end of the spectrum, it was pretty cool to see Goff trust LaPorta on that ballsy 4th down play at the end, putting the game in the hands of his rookie tight end
  16. Not for the 12th overall pick in the draft. He should be at least as good as Jordan Addison on the field
  17. Well... the last time Glenn's defense was embarrassed like this, they came out the following week and stomped the opposing team into the dirt. So who knows. I hope they murder the f***ing Bears
  18. Yeah that was shades of last year's GB game at Lambeau
  19. Time for the Venerable Lions Offensive Line to live up to its reputation
  20. If they don't drive down the field and score - even 3 points - this game is over. Just like Seattle, Glenn can't stop this offense
  21. Brock Wright? Seriously? Ok I see you Ben Johnson
  22. Anyone getting that final drive against KC vibes?
  23. It's what cost them the Seattle game. Offense balled out, defense gave the game away
