I think they have a championship level defense and a 1st round level offense. There are 3 or 4 team statistics to look at to correlate to winning. The Pistons do well in most of them. PIE is the first one. Detroit currently ranks 7th in PIE. Net Rating is the next big one to look at. Detroit currently ranks 7th in that as well. Shooting is the box score stat that has the greatest correlation to winning. They rank 24th in EFG%, so not so good. But they are ranked 1st in defensive EFG%. I would feel much better if they could get their EFG% up around 15th. Another problem come playoff time will be coaching. JB does a great job getting guys to buy in, play hard, and play defense. But he struggles with lineups and more importantly, with Xs and Os. Remember the last play against Chicago? Pistons inbound to Cade, zero screens, just let him try to get a 3PTA by going one on one? That is a problem in the regular season, its even more exaggerated come playoff time. Not advocating they fire JB. The man deserves another couple of shots in the playoffs for what he has built here.
