  1. I'm suddenly getting a picture of Frank Burns thinking that a kimchi pot is a bomb.
  2. To me, it's not black and white. As at least one poster said (Motown Bombers, maybe?) it's not as easy to come here as it used to be. There are people who came here quickly because they were in a dire situation in their home countries. There are people who were brought here as young children who have no memory of their home countries. Or, they've put down roots and no longer have a life anywhere but here. Many of them are pillars of their communities and we're better off with them than without them. So perhaps the only real difference is that the ones with legal status were fortunate enough to be able to obtain permission to stay. In many cases-yes, I'm defending them. Though TBH Oblong said it better than I can in a post from earlier today.
  3. While I'm not going to shed a tear if this ruins her career...the cynical part of me thinks that many of her colleagues and even many of her supporters agree with her but are smart enough to not say it out loud.
  4. Same.
  5. Not sure why you're directing this at me, but since you are I, and all of the other people I know IRL, voted for Harris. And in any case, those opposed to his policies still have the right to object to them and protest, just as those in the minority party still have the right to try to convince members of the majority party to vote differently. At least they used to. Come to think of it, even those who voted for him have the right to protest about policies they disagree with. Again, at least they used to. First they came for the immigrants.... I think we all know how this poem ends.
  6. ...which is why people are protesting. It isn't just people 'from the left' either. And if you yourself say that it is scummy, then I'm surprised that you still seem to support it.
  7. True. The article also suggests that there is disagreement over whether or not it is legal-and that it's taking time away from focusing on real security risks.
  8. Other administrations managed to do so without using the tactics the current one is using-heck, Obama was nicknamed the Deporter in Chief by immigrant advocates. Why can't this one? Seems to me that cruelty and fear is most, if not all, of the point. And many of them are being targeted AT the court, when they're going for their hearings.
  9. They're human beings, and still entitled to due process-mostly here to work, and make a better life. Some of them were 2-3 when they were brought here and don't even remember the countries of their birth. I work with a lot of people from Central America and they are good, hardworking people. I don't know under what circumstances they first came here (they're citizens now) and I don't care.
  10. That's the one. Thanks!
  11. That list makes me proud. Sigh.
  12. I decided to start watching The World at War series today... after seeing footage of Hitler's 50th birthday parade/celebration in episode 1, I believe I know exactly what Drumpf wanted his parade to be.
  13. Not sure how to post a link to a bluesky post, but there's one that basically says 'this is why you don't order from wish.com'
  14. Some questionable music choices.... I saw a clip where they played Fortunate Son by CCR as the parade was going on. Sounds like somebody has no idea what that song is about.
  15. Sad part is our armed forces deserve better-too bad he who shall not be named had to make it all about him instead.
