  1. As much as I dislike Joe Manchin, it goes without saying that I'd prefer him to what we're about to get.
  2. Probably nothing, since Biden is not as left wing as people seem to think. And again, do you think T will be doing anything to curb this? I have my doubts. Russians have also been buying land all over the country. I also think T will do anything about this.
  3. It'll be interesting, for sure. I haven't seen the last estimate of how much these mass deportations will cost, but my guess is it's more than enough for him to justify cutting grants in various industries-grants that provide salaries to a lot of workers.
  4. Consumer groups have been advocating for proper labeling on labels literally for decades, and there are indeed groups (including the Green Party, before Stein was influenced by Russia) that have fought for decades to get carcinogens out of food, and other products. The US has a history of sending different products overseas than it sells here-this goes back to such industries as apple orchards that would have to thoroughly clean arsenicals off of them before importing to Europe, but would sell them in the US as is. Do you know who prevented companies from being required to remove these chemicals from foods in the US? I'm guessing you do. And anybody who thinks that Trump, who has promised to roll back on regulations in general, is going to make our food safer is sorely mistaken.
  5. They'll solve the 'no tax on OT pay' by trying, probably successfully, to eliminate overtime pay.
  6. In all seriousness dental hygiene is a good steady career that requires a lot less money and time than dental school.
  7. I hear you-it's important that we actually do something to help. And I need to stop talking about getting away from the screens and actually do it, LOL. I never did get to that book I was going to read....
  8. I like the word Kakistocracy, that somebody used earlier in this thread.
  9. Agree 100%. I know Biden has his share of gaffes, but certainly nothing compared to Drumpf! And he has done a good job through difficult circumstances. Of course, it's only useful to look at the past in order to guide us in the present....
  10. I think it was both-he was told to step aside, and since he was going through a lot at the time he didn't argue.
  11. I was planning to take a couple of days off, then start researching in preparation for the midterms. And then it will be the time to get active in our communities, and if you haven't already, follow your local government and try to make choices to make it a healthy one. There are a lot of organizations and people out there who could use the help. And... remember in 2016 enough people got together to keep the ACA in place until the midterm elections-maybe we can't prevent everything on Drumpf's agenda but we owe it to ourselves to keep trying.
  12. Of course not. Any kind of bans and regulations would be bad for business! If RFK actually believes that Drumpf is concerned about the health of the American people, then he's in for a bumpy ride.
  13. Oh, to be young and naive.
  14. The difference is we'll be happy for her. ETA: And I actually have a good life, one that according to JD is one that I shouldn't have been able to choose.
  15. Sadly I think you are right-I guess my bf isn't a typical Latino man.
  16. And he also says that there are whole departments of the FDA that need to be eliminated. On the one hand, I do agree that a lot of ingredients used in foods should be banned like they are in Europe, but gutting the FDA is NOT the way to make food safer.
  17. There has been for a long time, I believe it was originally started by the John Birch society, or something like it. I recently saw a MASH episode where the Frank Burns character mentioned it, though I don't know if the storyline was based on that conspiracy.
  18. I think she could have a future at a university. I suspect she'll go home to California and have a better life than a lot of the people who wouldn't vote for her will ever have.
  19. Which is funny because MA is one of the states that sends more the the federal government in taxes than it gets back-while many of the states that get more than they send in are the red states. If the proposal to end income tax really did end up being passed (and I don't believe for a minute that it will), I suspect those states currently being subsidized will suddenly think it's unfair that the money is being taken away.
  20. Ugh, somebody on my friends list posted something in which, among other things, said that Jan 6th was a hoax. Fabulous.
  21. So, looks like MA is still about 95% blue.
  22. Yet I commonly heard people say that his experience as a strong businessman was one reason they trusted him more on the economy-even though his history shows the exact opposite. Don't get me wrong, I think people voted for him because a lot of people like that he's cruel, but they don't seem to know just how much of a failure he has been. Being put on the Apprentice actually saved him from ruin.
  23. which is why somebody should have repeatedly reminded people of his 6 bankruptcies, his many failed business ventures (how do you bankrupt a casino??), and all of his unpaid fees to vendors and rally sites.
  24. Come to think of it, that happened in Boston also. If that's true then Abbot is a dangerous evil genius.
  25. That could be a product of the electoral college system also... if people not in a swing state think their vote doesn't count much, then they might figure it doesn't matter if they go out or not. Let's face it-it kind of sucks when you know that who will be represented by is dependent on only a handful of states. I would never not vote-especially since there are other races to consider. I can't speak for others. Or, they figure (and I do believe it's people left of center most likely to do this) that since the candidate of the majority party is going to win anyway, they might as well vote third party.
