  1. And then people wonder why others think they're heartless. Go figure.
  2. One thing I read recently that made me stop and think was that there are still people alive who knew people born into slavery. The 1990s seem like a long time ago to me, even though it's when I came of age, so I can understand people looking back at the 1970s and thinking of them as the 'olden days.'
  3. Is there any truth to a rumor I heard that Drumpf could, on his first day of office, dismiss civil service workers based on their SS numbers? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.
  4. Trying to find post-bunion surgery shoes. I looked at one website for recommendations, and a moderator took out all brand names mentioned. While I understand the issue, it's frustrating because knowing which brand names make a good shoe to wear while my foot continues to recover is exactly what I need to make the search easier. Also I tried on shoes half a size larger than normal because they didn't have any in the size I've been wearing for years, and it appears that I've been wearing the wrong size. They feel way better, and not just on the foot that's recovering. Live and learn, I guess.
  5. Nope, they haven't. You've just described one of the oldest negotiation tactics in the book....
  6. As I have said since 2015, it's worse than that... people seem to believe that a man with 6 bankruptcies and multiple business failures is better because of all of his 'business experience.' And in all those years, not one of his supporters has addressed this. His talent seems to be to convince people that he's a lot better in general than he is. And yes, women are often treated differently in the workplace, in the ER-just about anywhere. We've still got a ways to go. That said, I do think the US will catch up eventually and elect a woman as President. We may not live to see it, unfortunately.
  7. I've been wondering for some time how suddenly people think the GOP is the party of peace. Unless, of course, it means something similar to the song in To Be or Not to Be: "a little piece of Poland, a little piece of France...."
  8. Not only a right to be heard, but also the right to be heard without anything you say being challenged!
  9. Twitter was-and might still be-the best place for me to get updates on delays/diversions/etc on the MBTA. That's why I originally joined, and that's how I found a lot of the transit and urban life members. I'll find another way to get my transit updates, I guess.
  10. MA is definitely a great place to live. It isn't perfect though-unfortunately the cost of housing is very high so a lot of people end up having to leave. I'm in several groups of YIMBYs but it will take time for things to change-and this is only if we're able to make changes.
  11. Yeah, that's why I think it's more than a little funny they're eating it. I didn't state that very well....
  12. And... it's interesting that somebody who's so concerned with people not breaking the laws, is most likely perfectly okay with the list of things Drumpf and company have done. So it's okay to be a convicted felon if you're on the 'right side?' of politics?
  13. Yikes. And have you ever seen Fast Food Nation, where they do an experiment including McD's French fries where they leave them out for weeks and they do not go bad? OK, IIRC the guy in that film ended up being a jerk, but what chemicals are in those things to make them not rot like normal food?
  14. Interestingly, when I got the Pfizer version of the COVID shot, I didn't get a reaction aside from a very mild pain at the injection site. The last one I got was Novartis-and I had tiredness, dizziness, and felt like my arm had been punched.
  15. I recommend making sure you at least have the next day off, just in case.
  16. I can't wait to see my first case of lockjaw in person. I've only seen it on television. 🤨
  17. Is anybody following Leopards ate my face on bluesky? I can't decided if it's funny, sad, or infuriating.
  18. The latest COVID shot I got definitely made my arm sore for the next couple of days. That was back in July so maybe it's not the same one? A lot of times, I have a sore arm from the flu vaccine but this year I didn't, just the tired feeling others are having. I'd say get them both on the same day, but make sure you don't have to be anywhere for a day or tow-just in case. I once made the mistake of getting a tetanus shot and a shingles shot on the same day, though, so just about anything else seems mild to me.
  19. There are already people who have relatives here illegally, who are realizing that those relatives won't be exempt just because 'they're here to work, not commit crimes.' And there will be more of them later. What's even worse? Some of them did interviews on why they voted for T, and told about these relatives. Nice job-you just outed the people you claim to love.
  20. Wow, I thought I lost this two decades ago.... my guess is this is about 40 years old.
  21. A lot of people tried to tell them, but they wouldn't listen-and it's hard to believe they weren't aware of the positions of his supporters, who have been anti-Muslim for decades.
  22. That's why I do with my family members. With others I may just interact with them in the fitness group. It's odd how none of them acted hateful until Drumpf entered the political arena-before that we just disagreed on many issues. I guess it's possible the ugliness was there before....
  23. And now comes the To unfriend, or not to unfriend portion of my personal history. A person I originally met in a fitness group is now posting tweets by Mush telling those of us who don't like the outcome of this election to just stop paying attention to the news, so that all we'll see is lower prices, lower crime, more jobs, etc. Don't even get me started on my Drumpf loving cousins.....
  24. Perhaps he should be called Apartheid Elon?
