  1. True, which believe it or not tells me that primarying in elections is important.
  2. I recently read about AOC's first campaign for office-she went from door to door and interacted with constituents who had never been reached out to, and in some cases who had never voted. This was one reason she was successful against an incumbent who had never bothered to do this. Perhaps we should be encouraging more younger people to run for office at the lower levels, and getting their message across at those local levels also.
  3. This is the first part of a few months of different boycotts-next up is a week of no Amazon. My hope is that it gets people to look for and buy from the smaller places, and to learn just how many brands are owned by a much larger company. It's going to take a lot of time to shift people's buying habits, but it's a good start.
  4. This is why ultimately both the short and long term plan has to focus on where people get their messaging. And that's going to be hard because there are a whole lot of people getting their info from places like Fox, social media, and other various right wing media sound bites-and a lot of places they go are showing that kind of media (laundromat, diners, even waiting rooms at doctor's offices). In '08, one advantage Obama had was getting his message out on SM, but that seems to now be a huge advantage for right wing extremists. I've reached out to people in the past IRL in situations far less important than national elections-only to find myself locked in with my own set of face eating leopards. There has got to be a better way to reach people.
  5. I already avoid a lot of those companies, though a lot of them own a lot of other brands that make them tougher to avoid (Bezos is linked with Whole Foods, Uber, and Grubhub, for example). I try to support local businesses instead.
  6. Do I even have to tell you which two I would choose?
  7. So.... I'm not one to act in a way that some of my MAGA acquaintances who love to 'see libruls cry.' That said, while I'm not one to gleefully say 'see? The leopard ate your face!' I still can't help but say to myself that they voted for it. And if they're somebody I've been close to, I won't hesitate to tell them their mistake-and maybe show them better ways to get their information. Well... maybe a little good natured teasing might be in order. 😉 Tbh, I'd be more than a little bit leery to invite somebody who seemingly was okay with the all of the hatred and vitriol Drumpf and company spouted off into my resistance group-especially if and when it becomes dangerous to be in such a group. How can I trust somebody who voted for somebody who openly vowed to hurt a lot of people I care about IRL?
  8. To me it's a reminder that growing old gracefully is best. Obviously I'd rather have some things about my looks back but some of these people are downright frightening to look at. ...and I don't get it because I know people who get Botox IRL and they do NOT look scary like this. What exactly is being done to them?
  9. A fine, upstanding citizen. A man's man.
  10. I just assumed he was using the child as a human shield, in case somebody wanted to take a shot at him or something.
  11. And doesn't answer the question, unless it's a response to 'tell me you didn't read my letter without telling me you didn't read my letter.'
  12. So they'll be calling French fries 'freedom fries' again?
  13. This is exactly why I miss when utilities were government run.
  14. And they often blame people who a, took the time and initiative to become educated and get a government job (often for less money), b, have benefits that they wish they had and think if they don't have them nobody should, and c, are people of color, women, or members of other groups.
  15. It also happens occasionally, in my case, to determine how much time we're spending on tasks so that we know if the per diem costs for the departments we support need to be adjusted.
  16. I'm pretty sure they've stopped caring about pesky things like that, if they ever cared at all.
  17. I copied this from the Auschwitz Memorial Facebook page: 22 February 1943 | Sophie and Hans Scholl & Christoph Probs were executed by guillotine in Germany for their public resistance against the Nazi regime. They were members of White Rose movement called for active opposition to the Nazi party. Hans, a medical student at the University of Munich, was 24. Sophie, a student of biology and philosophy, was 21. Christoph, a medical student, was 22. Their activities started in Munich on 27 June 1942, and ended with the arrest of the core group by the Gestapo on 18 February 1943. At great risk, the White Rose group conducted an anonymous leaflet and graffiti campaign that called for active opposition to the Nazi regime. In total, the they authored six leaflets, which were multiplied and spread, in a total of about 15,000 copies. They denounced the Nazi regime's crimes and oppression, and called for resistance. In their second leaflet, they openly denounced the persecution and mass murder of the Jews. In their attempt to stop the war effort, they advocated the sabotage of the armaments industry. “We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will not leave you in peace!" "For Hitler and his followers there is no punishment on this Earth commensurate with their crimes. But out of love for coming generations we must make an example after the conclusion of the war, so that no one will ever again have the slightest urge to try a similar action" - a fragment of the fourth leaflet.
  18. And women. A lot of the people being fired are women.
  19. My previous rep (Lynch) has always done a lot of town halls-including virtual ones. My current one (Pressley) has a lot of exposure without doing a lot of them-she's more likely to show up at local protests.
  20. So much for the buck stops here.
  21. Please take New England, too! That way we can all still meet in Ogunquit every summer.
  22. I keep on thinking of the skit from To Be Or Not to Be.... with Mel Brooks as Hitler singing "All I want is peace-a little piece of Poland, a little piece of France...."
  23. I've been thinking about this for the past few days and.... I don't think T is planning on bringing in Canada as a 51st state unless/until it's established that it'll vote the way he thinks they 'should.' My spidey sense is telling me he's more likely thinking of it as becoming Lebensraum for 'real Americans' only. I have no idea how he would go about doing this, and frankly I hope I never find out.
  24. Ugh. Even a lot of people who initially were against congestion pricing now say that it has worked surprisingly well-less congestion, safer streets for pedestrians, and a faster trip for those who have to drive there. I knew it was toast when the governor of NJ begged Drumpf to intervene.
