  1. The less than perfect lawn is actually a healthier lawn... and one way to prevent grass from turning brown in the event of a drought is to let it grow longer. Don't even get me started on overuse of pesticides and herbicides.
  2. It seems as if no matter when I go food shopping, there are always a bunch of people unpacking new inventory, and blocking half of the aisles, as well as many of the spots where the stuff I need to buy happens to be. Gotta love first world problems.
  3. As popular as I know them to be.... Why oh why do so many channels have Christmas in July movies? I suppose if they were actually good I wouldn't mind....as much. How can I miss the season, if it won't go away?
  4. I can hear my father saying that just because somebody else is even worse, doesn't make our wrongdoings any better.
  5. I.... can't even come up with words, at least not ones fit to print.
  6. The books The Warmth of Other Suns, and Caste (both by Isabel Wilkerson) also do an excellent job of describing this. I wish I could say my city was better... unfortunately I cannot.
  7. Very sorry to hear that. No matter how long you have them, it never feels like enough time....
  8. Just waiting to see who will attack first... on the plus side, Logan is learning that there are at least a few people who aren't so bad. He will now accept pets and is my latest example of a Purr Monster.
  9. Once I found out when I was already struggling with a sinusitis attack that I had no Sudafed left, so I dragged myself to the closest CVS who informed me they didn't have the 24 hour one and that I should go to another one. I asked if they could call one of them to see if they had it in stock (so I wouldn't waste my time-keep in mind I was in a lot of pain) but they refused. Luckily the supermarket had it in stock, and for quite a bit cheaper. Needless to say I'm glad the hospital where I now work has a pharmacy that sells a lot of the basics.
  10. Honestly I'm okay with the change, although I preferred the April start. I'd rather not have it stay dark until 9 am in the winter, and I'd also rather not have it get light at 4 am in the summer. I do struggle a bit after DST starts, but on the whole I think it's the best option.
  11. I'll admit I thought of getting the high deductible plan paired with an HSA (contributions can be carried over), but am more than a bit worried that ridiculous amounts of paperwork will lead to not being able to use my own money for any health care costs.
  12. Come to think of it, opening day here is at the end of March... okay, I hate the local team but still. 🙂 It's good you live in the western part of the time zone... I like dark evenings so being on the eastern part suits me well. The only saving grace of winter for me? The grey late afternoons. I guess I'm part vampire. (and I agree about thunderstorms)
  13. March is my least favorite month, on average. No holidays off, weather can't make up its mind between snow, rain, and mud, and the start of DST tends to throw me off, for some reason.
  14. I get tense because people here are bad drivers to begin with and can barely drive in rain, let alone snow.
  15. For the past few days, I've had the theme song from Leave it to Beaver stuck in my head. At least I find the show entertaining...
  16. Hmmm... did this movie have a Gary Cooper who wanted to sing show tunes? I haven't looked too closely, but with the, er, challenges on Twitter lately some people are talking about a social media site called Mastodon. It looks like you start groups of people with similar interests. I don't know if it would meet your needs, but might be worth a look if you want something to try out.
  17. Not sure how I missed seeing this building before, I must have walked by it hundreds of times. My city does have some beautiful architecture.
  18. On that note, why is there often a marathon of a show called Naked and Afraid on Animal Planet? And I miss when Discovery and The History Channel had documentaries about science and history. I do sometimes find shoes about WWII that are interesting on one channel (forget the name of it), but that's about it.
  19. And, I have a small but very adequate walk in closet space and I want a few simple shelves. Why is that so hard to find? Do people really have the need for closets that look like they're bigger than my entire condo? Yikes!
  20. Ah, FB. I finally gave up trying to get back into my old account (which I can't get into because I forgot to change my phone number on my profile). Still get alerts via email. Meanwhile, on twitter, FB has an account filled with people locked out of their accounts for various reasons-and they get multiple answers from bots offering to get their accounts back (I'm assuming their hackers). It's impossible to reach anybody there because they have no customer service. Yup, not a good platform. I'm thinking of going to Mastodon or Tribel.
  21. Trying to find a Valentine's Day basket of goodies without chocolate makes me feel like the woman in a Monty Python skit, trying to find a dish without spam.
  22. We should. Absolutely. The best part? There are people, including ones I know, who would provide a place for them to stay in a heartbeat. A little humanity and communication would go a long way.
  23. Agreed. (also like the pun, intentional or not)
