  1. Outside of Tork and Keith and Meadows is anybody really surprised by the epically bad hitting from the others?   If 2 out of 3 of those guys were just marginally better this team could have 4-5 more wins.

You expected the team to move on from Tork after he hit 30HR last year with a later season bloom?  Meadows is a rookie and sometimes they don’t pan out.  But you have to let them play to be able to say that.
Keith is on Harris somewhat because of the extension.  That tells me they saw something.

Is the 6:40 PM start a nod to parents with children inducing them to go to games on school nights in the hopes of generating a love of baseball with the next generation? Now that games aren’t routinely 3 1/2 to 4 hours long, part of that resistance to bringing a child to a game has been circumvented. Maybe it has something to do with making the most of daylight?

The cynic in me is they don’t want you eating out before the game.   They used to do it in April and Sept for midweek games. That was because of weather.

Its probably not fair of me to call it just a L/L matchup, you're right.  I'm sure he had some other rationale and I know he likes to look ahead in the game at possible matchups.

I guess I don't see the reward for PHing him with two out in the 5th when that spot in the lineup is coming up again.  Not for Carpenter, anyway.  Now, McKinstry or Keith, I am more amenable to it.

One thing I hated about Tram being the manager is I had to criticize my hero.  He was a stickler on the matchups and it drove me crazy.  Just very predictable.

    Well now

well to be honest it was actually as best of a retort you can do... and he followed it up with "I've heard Bill Clinton say worse on the golf course" which is:

    a) totally believable

    b) the husband of the person you are running against

    c) also a former President and many dems knew he was like that and were ok enough with it

It was the fourth or fifth "I can't believe it.  This will definitely be the one thing that drags him down..." and you initially see the "normal" GOP say the right things then as acceptence gains they fall back in line.

I am once again reminded of one of my pet peeves, while trying to plan a vacation. I asked people to let me know 1, what kind of lodging they want, and 2, how much they want to spend. The answer ranged from nothing at all, to "whatever you decide is okay with me."

I'm guessing you can guess what comes next-I choose something, and all of a sudden everyone has an opinion (generally that everything about my choice is wrong).

Now the prices have gone up, and it looks like it's too much now.

I should know by now to plan my own vacation, and then whoever wants to come can join me.

oh man that's the worst.  Anything involving multiple people.

We are going through it.  A cousin has a medical issue that will deteriorate  and she wanted all the cousins to get together.  A person took charge and found a place in Georgia.  A tad expensive but I'm ok with it since it's for our cousin and I won't miss that money in 3 years.  Booked our flight, got our car.... now the person in charge is like "Well they aren't giving us the discount and I know some people thought it was expensive.... what if we all met in December instead in Michigan?"  Then you have a bunch of other cousins saying "yeah, that's good" and others saying "We can't guarantee our availability", blah blah blah.  Just a cluster.

it's my wife's cousin so it's all the females handling it.  I told my wife to tell them "We will be flying into Jacksonville that weekend to go somewere... if anybody wants to join us they are welcome to"

  6. Sixto Sanchez...

in HS we had a team party before the playoffs and the Tigers were playing the White Sox.  This was spring 1990.  The starter for the Sox was Melido Perez.  A coach says to me as we're eating pizza... "You tell me a guy named Melido Perez doesn't smoke cocaine"

    These people need an education

They don’t know what the word means.  It can also be a byproduct of the forced patriotism shoved down our throats post 9/11.  “What’s wrong with these fine military boys in charge?  They are nice kids. Support our troops Commie!”

I disagree that a 1/1 draft pick is no better than a lottery ticket. There have been disappointing and even spectacular failures at 1/1 for a lot of teams, not just the Tigers (Matt Anderson, anyone?), as at any other pick. But the hit rate on 1/1 picks is good enough that I think it’s reasonable to be disappointed if Tork craps out with a 0.0 WAR career—meaning, for the part of his career he spends with the Tigers.

Now, the 9th pick in the 2018 draft? Definitely a lottery ticket that came through.

But who else should they have taken? Maybe we are arguing semantics.  Someone earlier used the word “annoying” by comparing it to Baltimore’s 1:1 fortunes  and I agree with that.  You are at the mercy of the players in that draft.  For me to use the word disappointment would mean someone made a poor decision.  I don’t see that here with Tork.

I would be more than mildly disappointed because Tork was a consensus 1/1, and we all expected better, much better, than a coin flip career from him.

I’m coming around to the idea that Tork may not amount to anything after all, and by now I won’t be surprised if that’s the outcome. But I would still be sorely disappointed because, after all, we tanked like a mother****ing anchor to get the guy in the first place.

But I view that as simply fate.  It wasn’t a Matt Bush vs Justin Verlander situation and my team guessed wrong on who to pick.   I save my disappointment for times when someone didn’t execute or do their work.  In this case the Tigers couldn’t have done anything different.  Draft picks are lottery tickets and our scratch off paid out $2.

Wouldn't you be disappointed as hell if all Tork amounts to is Rob Deer or a poor man's version of Deer? Deer had a career OPS of sub .750 and struck out an average of like 150 times a season. He's the poster child for all power and no smarts when at the plate. A dude just ripping at the ball with poor pitch selection and bad swings.

I would be mildly disappointed but not really surprised as most hitters drafted will not be as good as Rob Deer.
