  1. Here's every major league free agent signed by the Giants during Harris's tenure. 12/3/2019 Tyler Anderson 12/10/2019 Kevin Gausman 1/16/2020 Drew Smyly 2/7/2020 Hunter Pence 2/9/2020 Billy Hamilton 2/12/2020 Wilmer Flores 11/11/2020 Kevin Gausman 11/10/2020 Jason Vosler 12/8/2020 Matt wisler 12/16/2020 Anthony DeSclafani 12/21/2020 John Brebbia 1/4/2021 Curt Casali 1/14/2021 Alex Wood 2/4/2021 Tommy La Stella 2/17/2021 Jake McGee 2/21/2021 Aaron Sanchez 11/17/2021 Brandon Belt 11/22/2021 Anthony DeSclafani 11/30/2021 Alex Cobb 12/1/2021 Alex Wood 3/14/2022 Carlos Rodon 3/14/2022 Jakob Junis 3/17/2022 Joc Pederson 3/20/2022 Matthew Boyd 7/21/2022 Trevor Rosenthal
  2. 60 was the pre-amphetamines record as well as the pre-integration record. Asterisks for steroids, pre 2005 testing, are a media manufactured thing.
  3. Why is 61 a big deal? The record is 73. Is there national media attention when any team record is broken or are they revising history to try to gin up a story?
  4. They aren't mutually exclusive. The Giants have been active on waivers and buying low on some guys the past couple years, and have probably been as platoon and match-up heavy as any team in that time.
  5. I think the Tigers going forward will be a lot more active on the back end of the 40 man roster and on the edges of the roster.
  6. Not even the worst contract the Tigers have given to an overweight 1B in the past 12 years. They were just able to unload the other.
  7. Also, he said he plans on hiring a GM. I'd bet that's external, and I'd bet it's after that team's season ends. The Giants playoff odds hit zero at some point last week, which likely played into the timing a bit. I doubt poaching a Dodger could be done until they are eliminated.
  8. Bonds 756: Mike Bascik Bonds 755: Clay Hensley (I remember this one, because Clay Hensley tested positive for steroids at some point but nobody seemed to care) Bonds 700: Jake Peavy Aaron 700: Ken Brett Ruth 700: Elden Auker (I vaguely remember this coming up when Auker died) Fick 6: Jeff Montgomery
  9. Observations from the presser... Illitch's statement on Harris being innovative and not chasing what others are doing seemed, umm... pointed. Illitch also mentioned the people who helped. There are currently five VP's or AGM's on staff. Four were named. David Chadd wasn't.
  10. Plies reports to Chadd and Chadd has a big time say at the top of the draft.
  11. Wanna take bets on the first virtue signaling pinko to criticize the Tigers for hiring a white guy?
  12. Cohen spooked some folks. Remember at the time he was known for airing dirty laundry on Twitter.
  13. He was in on the Mets job last year. He wanted to take the next step and run the show. There is no guessing about it.
  14. Good discussion on front office title creep starting about 39 minutes in: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/chin-music-episode-36-fill-your-holes-with-external-candidates/
  15. Anyways, I've got the org chart going into 2022 crystalized, and plan on putting some kind of before/after out there when the 2023 media guide comes out.
  16. You can't hire a GM from another organization to be a GM unless they aren't under contract. You can hire them for a higher title. That's behind almost all title creep. Anyways, the GM of the following teams is not the top dog in baseball ops: Brewers, Guardians, Rays, Athletics, Phillies, Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants, Cubs, Twins, Red Sox, Royals Most teams have 3-6 or so AGM's or VP's (in Baseball Ops), with some having as many as 12-15. A lot of AGM/VP's are, again, promoted to keep from being poached. Kevin Goldstein had a segment on this on his nascent podcast between his Astros and Twins job. You really like your player development director? Promote him to Assistant General Manager-Player Development, and he can't be hired as Player Development Director. Anyways, I'm not kidding when I say I deep dived the org charts of all 30 organizations last month. In general, your baseball ops org structure: President, Baseball Ops General Manager Assistant General Manager (Special Assistant is somewhere on this tier. Some are ceremonial, like Horton. Some are doing actual work, like Slater/McLeod/Goldstein) Director Assistant Director Coordinator Manager (Not like AJ Hinch manager. I'm talking in the analytics department, manager is a tier) And from here it depends on the department. There was remarkable standardization on this front. There are also several duel titles on the executive side that some baseball ops people get President Executive Vice President Vice President Did you know Al Avila was EVP? Did you know Menzin, Sartori, Chadd, Bream, and Garko are VP's?
  17. That last NL West GM was younger than everybody too. I want to say he was the youngest in modern history at that point.
  18. This is what I found when I dug through everybody right after Avila got fired: Scott Harris (35) – General Manager, San Francisco Giants 2020-Pres: Giants General Manager 2018-2019: Cubs Assistant General Manager 2012-2017: Cubs Director of Baseball Operations 2010-2011: MLB Coordinator of Major League Operations 2010: Reds Intern 2008: Nationals intern
  19. He's been slipping since his stroke about 10 years ago.
  20. The Tigers should have told AFL they can't have the Magno.
  21. Don't forget division mates play eachother 14 times a year going forward, down from 19.
  22. In 2019, restrictions on AFL rosters were lifted. It used to be MLB players weren't allowed, but now it's allowed, particularly pitchers you may want to get some innings to help build up.
  23. Walker is a guy I thought might check the SP box who isn't near any innings limits.
