  1. Owens DFA is interesting. Almost like they have him included in a trade. Because he is on the IL, he cannot be outrighted. So if they don't find a taker for him today, they have to release him if he clears waivers.
  2. "Controllable years" is a bit of a misnomer for a reliever. I remember saying this when the Cubs traded Scott Efross with "5 years of control." Relievers don't have a 10 year shelf life in most cases.
  3. For the "he will re-sign after clearing waivers" crowd, I feel like I need to explain Hartlieb. Because he has been outrighted before, he had the right to declare free agency upon his outright. I don't know the terms of the contract he opted out of, but he was likely on a minimum deal or close to it. Hernandez has the same right (greater than 3 yrs service), but he has a guaranteed 7 figure deal he would be opting out of. If he had 5 years he could refuse that assignment and effectively force his release to get paid. His DFA limbo ends tomorrow. I suspect if he clears waivers, he will accept the assignment.
  4. West coast PGA Championships in prime time because they aren't beholden to 60 minutes anymore? Sign me up!
  5. They have the NFL. They will be fine. That has fueled some pretty crappy prime time sitcom success for a quarter century now.
  6. Wapo ran an op-ed from Scott Bessent hawking crypto today and moderated my comment that it was a scam.
  7. Torkmoil probably lifted from the BA tracker and didn't cite it.
  8. There's some highlights, including a McGonigle double from the Moon Mammoths game at the end of Last Week Tonight this week.
  9. Here to say if PASS was nationally syndicated instead of WGN, Lou Whitaker would be in the Hall of Fame instead of Ryne Sandberg.
  10. Also. We let Alfredo Simon walk 10 years ago, so no way we have enough to go get him.
  11. Editorials that are well researched and well cited can be just as insightful as news stories, if not more. Having said that, if you go to an opinions page and see a lot of redundancy, it makes some sense to reorganize in a lot of ways.
  12. Tell that to Claire McCaskill, Bill Nelson, Joe Donnelly, and Heidi Heitkamp.
  13. Too late. My annual subscription runs through December. I don't see myself renewing, nor do I see it being worthwhile to at that point. The list of departures is pretty amazing.
  14. Glenn Kessler leaving Wapo might be its death knell.
  15. I know this was a joke but for those curious, the maximum it can be was $100k. It is likely between $50k and $100k, because 50 is the waiver price and this deal bypasses waivers.
  16. March 2029 after adults are put back in place. Nothing is going to happen here. Jizzy is going to work with his syndicate to get everything swept under the rug.
  17. Two more promotions to Toledo without corresponding moves, meaning there are likely two more pitchers hurt that haven't been officially logged on the IL. They are four over the roster limit right now, so there are four players unavailable that we don't know about... which is why the Hartlieb's and Jackson's are coming up.
  18. No idea on Schiefelbein. He hasn't even been reported to be on the IL, but has been out since May. He was not on the late May injury report the org put out. Wilson, Dickerson, Swanson, and Massey all had UCL Surgery (might be internal brace or TJ). As mentioned, Hall had stress reaction in his shoulder as of the late May report. He has since been moved to the 60-Day IL. This is the most recent update. There should be another soon.
  19. If the Education Department still needs a figure head, I feel handling kids is right up here alley for these people.
  20. This reeks of the DOJ acting as his personal attorney getting her to say he was not involved.
  21. Tyler Owens is on a rehab assignment in Lakeland. Prior to that, his injury list placement hadn't been reported. There's at least one more player in Toledo on the IL who hasn't been reported. The Mud Hens intern has been asleep at the wheel on transaction reporting this year. If you were wondering why Hartlieb got the call yesterday...
  22. Seems procedural. None of them got in the game yesterday, and I haven't seen any corresponding roster moves to get under the Domestic Reserve limit, which this puts them about 10 over.
  23. Not that this has stopped him before, but the President can't fire the Fed Chair.
  24. I doubt it. Tigers had last priority and he made it that far, and hasn't upped his value since. He probably isn't opting out of $1.1M guaranteed to try to latch on somewhere on a split contract.
