  1. You are exactly right. And just as one rightly criticizes the racists who have been given license by US conservative figures, it seems like the same level of consistency needs to be applied toward who give antisemitism license.
  2. The many instances of colleges and universities releasing wishy-washy statements in the aftermath of the initial attacks, given how zealous many of these same institutions ordinarily are to issue statements on any number of other outrages, is pretty telling as well.
  3. Not sure what this has to do with Jewish students facing threats or campus police having to be stationed outside of a Cornell dining hall. Criticism of Netanyahu or the Likud Party? Fine by me, he's terrible and bears a lot of responsibility for this crisis. Criticism of Israel's policy vis a vis Palestine? Fair game as well. But I think we can all see that there are instances on the left where it has gone beyond policies or Israel's current government and has entered into antisemitic territory... and that is unacceptable. Full stop, and without any "whataboutisms".
  4. Yeah, that's probably how I proceed going forward. At least will try it anyway in the short term. Sports and a couple other areas of interests to myself make it hard to walk away completely, but the reality is that my internal pendulum is swinging pretty hard against using the platform going forward without making serious changes. It's just gotten extremely ugly and misinformation is rampant. I think the "For You" thing, and how I think they, in subtle ways, push you toward that feed really angers me though. It seems like that feed is way more toxic than the real time feed and that it's intentional
  5. The degree to which antisemitism is manifesting itself in the wake of the Hamas attacks is pretty ****ing alarming.
  6. I'm pretty close to leaving tbh. The Israel-Gaza Conflict (and the rhetoric that has stemmed from it) has been ugly ugly ugly, and it no doubt has been exacerbated by the platform. But along those lines, I've had the "For You" page open by default lately (despite settings for "Following" to be a default for my account) and have noticed that it is tailored to be ugly and garner negative engagement. In a manipulative way. The platform has always been a ****show since I've been using it, but some of the changes (pushing "For You"; taking out headlines from news stories) make it far less useful.
  7. Amazing how it's never time to talk about doing anything...
  8. The optics of Emmer getting pulled down for, in large part, voting to certify in 2020 while this guy (who came up with the SCOTUS Amicus Brief) gets elevated is gonna likely be exploited as well.
  9. Would it be too much for the press to keep asking this question of the guy, particularly if he does end up walking away with the gavel? Or would it be too much to risk their "access"?
  10. People keep framing this in terms of who will fold or not, but this is an extremely divided caucus working with a 4-vote majority. And it's a caucus brimming with grievances between factions that aren't likely to be bridged. A bunch of them are tired of this process and don't understand why McCarthy was even ousted in the first place. It's an extremely tough needle to thread for any of these candidates going forward.
  11. People are inclined to think this, but idk...
  12. Roll out the sandwiches lol
  13. It's a battle for the soul of the party, but this whole exercise of going back and forth is just endless cycle of the one thing that defines this Republican Party: grievance. Grievance is to the Republican Party what OxyC is to an opioid addict.... it's all consuming, self destructive, and the rest of us all get to live the consequences of their dysfunction.
  14. Not a serious political party lol
  15. Not sure if he's referring to the House or not, but if he is, his statement wouldn't even be accurate (Delaware and Alaska come to mind)
  16. Pretty sure the resolution would require the whole house to vote, presumably Bacon and Co + Dems means that's a fruitless endeavor for the Jordan dead-enders.
  17. The strategy is sort of hard to suss out imo because he doesn't care about winning this election or becoming Speaker.... he cares about being a martyr standing up to the "evil establishment". All the failure with Rs in tough districts (ie. the NYers, Bacon, etc.) and with R Appropriators (Granger, Simpson, Womack) all helps fill his narrative, which is the content that energizes the types of Republicans that Jordan caters to.
  18. We've reached the "order Panera and yell at each other" portion of the day
  19. To be honest, while I don't think it is likely, I wouldn't be totally surprised if this happens.... if one gathers that Jordan is trying to make himself into a martyr, one way for that to happen is for Jeffries to be elected by fluke because he was "failed" by the "evil Establishment"
  20. Yeah, the whole "Jordan is gonna keep the whole Congress in session all weekend" idea falls apart the moment that (if my math is correct) three GOP members join Derrick Van Orden in being somewhere else all weekend.
  21. There ya go, good ol' fashioned victim blaming.
  22. It honestly amazes me it's taken even this long for there to be more coverage of how normalized this is within the Republican Party in particular.... especially since Trump came into play, this has always been a feature, although we're now seeing real world consequences of it for these holdouts.
