No joke.... if Schoop drops off more, he'll be gone within weeks. -

We just disagree here.... Maton, in particular, seems very likely to exceed anything a Castro would do, but the other players you mentioned are better as well. They play better defense, they can take a walk, they do a bunch of the smaller things right and that stuff adds up. I wouldn't rule out any outcome because of the illogic of life and how teams can have differing amounts of luck during the year, injuries, etc. But predictions are made on paper, and this team on paper looks to have a range of 68 to 75 imo -

All true. But in terms of making predictions, using logic makes sense. -

I can see the argument for a similar record to 2022. I dont see it for 58 wins -

73 wins for me -
Mostly skeptical because of his defense... His throwing arm was decent as an OF last year, but he largely doesn't cut it. Maybe the Twins will figure it out or expose him less

lol

I dont care if the fans care. The admissions and damages for admitting the truth is enough for me

The lack of ethics inside this organization is just astounding. It won't happen, but they deserve to be dismantled brick-for-brick and to have the earth salted around them

Speaking of Amy Walter... right on cue after a slew of bad polling for Meatball Ron

1000%.... and the less you pay, the more that offices are left to the uber-wealthy who can afford to rep for peanuts. And the less beholden they are to you, the taxpayer. It's one of those populist stances that is absolutely awful in practice.

I just hope he's being paid for the work.... it'd be really pathetic to carry that kinda water for free lol

There you go.... In the general population, I think there's earnest desire to do more on mental health. But for the politicians that get sent to Congress, all these subjects are distractions meant to run out the clock until the next incident happens.
-
Amazing how all the people who get bent out of shape when people point out the identity of a white male shooter and their political identity seem to have no problem scoring some points when the shooter comes from a cohort they hate. Really the identities don't matter.... it comes down to the access to guns.
-
You will not get an argument from me about spending more on mental health.... having said that, I don't believe the United States is unique in having people within it's borders who have mental health issues. Our counterparts in Europe and Canada no doubt have people living within their borders who have mental health issues, yet on a per capita basis, they do not have the problems that we have with shooting incidents. Which brings us back to the overarching point.... I have seen a lot of politicians run for a variety of excuses over the years for why we have gun violence at the scale we have it in this country, or why we have mass shooting incidents in schools and public spaces at the scale we have it. They talk about building design and mental health and video games and any number of subjects. In this case, they are even engaging in identity politics over the individual shooter (see preceding post from Stan 2.0). But none of that matters.... if something is to be done *at scale* about the problem, we need to talk about the guns. And unfortunately, almost all Republican politicians have shut down any real discussion on that subject in this country.

I wouldn't blame the polls so much as I would the horserace pundits who could never get the nuance. 2022 was a bit of a perfect storm because when you combine the tendency for the incumbent's party to lose badly during the first midterm with the internalization of the idea that polling would always be biased toward Democrats (as it was in 2016 and 2020), it really blinded a lot of these folks to some other trends in the electorate and the idea that 2022 was a more unique environment that might not match conventional wisdom. I think a lot about how the punditry just completely downplayed Dobbs as an issue.... like, they recognized it for the first month or so after the decision, but it's almost like they assumed that because there was less reporting and less buzz about the issue going into the fall, that meant it no longer mattered or had much of a bearing on swing voters. And that appears to be completely wrong. Either way, I just think the situation is much different now.... the Dave Wasserman and Amy Walter types may have harder jobs in this day and age and can't just fall back onto "conventional wisdom" to do their jobs.
-
They did their jobs and deserve credit for it... As we learned at Uvalde, that's no guarantee. But nothing about this situation should ever be described as "working"... Its unacceptable

I'm all in favor of new term solutions, but they aren't necessarily a panacea and it's not clear that even the incident that took place in Nashville would have been avoided through specific changes. That's the irony of people (not necessarily Tigeraholic, but the gun nut pols who aren't interested in doing their jobs) who use 'hardening' as a means to avoid the elephant in the room: they will often argue or complain about people bringing up specific gun control measures that wouldn't have applied during a specific mass shooting, but yet will point to specific safety measures that may as well not have applied during same specific mass shooting. Same difference people lol

The beat writers obsession over "old friends" in general is puzzling. I have never understood it.

Umm, no?

My favorite is how people are invoking Harold Castro in reference to Zach McKinstry. It's not like there's an up and down choice between the two players lol.... they had a choice to either tender or non-tender a contract to Harold and chose not to. And despite Harold hitting for average, it's not like there aren't other flaws in his game, such as his defense, which lower his (no pun intended) utility

Admittedly I didn't play as close of attention to Spring Training during the last couple of weeks, but I didn't realize he had hit a 2-21 skid at the end.

Some more beauties under this tweet too lol

Thanks for sharing. Has there been any reporting on security precautions taken by the school in Nashville? We have had a couple of incidents near me, including one in our school district, recently and the schools in question aren't exactly lassiez faire on security.

Definitely possible... just commenting more on some of the overly negative reactions, particular from one former member. It's not like they gave up much to get him lol
