  1. Just wait until the right's biggest bogeyman officially weighs in favor of the Russian government...
  2. Given how prolific of a podcaster he's become, it's not a stretch to suggest he LARPs as a Senator at this point as well lol
  3. Of all the people to be lodging accusations of "engaging in theater"...
  4. The Faedo thing (how the last regime wanted him to change his delivery, new set letting him go back to the way he was doing it before entering the org) sort of reminds me of what we have often heard about the KC Royals during the Dayton Moore years, how they would draft pitchers and force them to use pitches that they'd never used before. And unsurprisingly, they have had suboptimal results developing pitchers It's more complex than this in reality, but in general it seems best to make changes to cater to players preexisting strengths versus just completely just changing their makeup.
  5. The caveat being that the strikeout numbers were still not where you'd want them, with Jobe it has to be mentioned that he did pitch better in the second half of the year. And I wonder if some of that does have to do with the new development regime (ie, Garko, others) becoming more established in the org. Overall, maybe the contrast with Mayer hasn't improved (especially as various entities release rankings), but it's not like Jobe has gotten *worse* as a player since drafting him, he has shown improvement and glimpses of his talent. It just remains to be seen if the staff can continue to work with him and make sure that he realizes his potential.
  6. Never said they were. Just maybe suggesting that bringing up Marcelo Mayer every time there's a discussion about Jackson Jobe doesn't mean much when neither player has played beyond High A.
  7. Hey, I would have preferred they taken Mayer myself, said it many times. But as much as he is referenced around here, he still isn't a guarantee either.
  8. Neither has Marcelo Mayer...
  9. One gets the sense that Jobe could eventually end up an All Star, front line starter in baseball and there'd still be people talking about Marcelo Mayer. I get why people do it, but it's over. The pick happened. And the guy who picked him isn't even here anymore. Let's hope he can build on some of the small successes he had at the end of last season and progress forward in 2023 under the new staff.
  10. I know this is probably more sarcasm, but I really don't see that happening this year. Team is in a much different position pitching wise.
  11. Not referring to you, just more the general comments seen among the fanbase
  12. It's been happening, fwiw.... the lighting and fences are part of this as well, finally getting that stuff done fits into the pattern as well. I don't like Chris Ilitch or think he's even a scrupulous businessman for that matter. But if you aren't totally hung up on free agency, it's not hard to see this stuff happening. But free agency is also the biggest and highest profile thing that happens in the offseason and ultimately how judgments are made in terms of improvements among fans.
  13. Doesn't this play into people's perception of him as a business man as well? Is going out and ****posting and trolling now seen as good business acumen or something that doesn't risk alienating customers, or am I just behind the times?
  14. As much as the fanbase treats Pizza Jr. like a Scooby Doo villian, it's not clear that the players feel the same way....
  15. I don't believe that Miggy deserves scorn for the situation the Tigers are in, after all this comes down to a contract that the team offered him eight years ago and which he accepted. On the other hand, performance and merit still does matter. Miggy will gets his ABs, especially early.... but if we get a version of second half Miguel in 2023, he oughtta be given more limited ABs in favor of younger players. Which, again, fits right in with the PBO's stated comments that ABs for younger players being a valuable commodity.
  16. I'm not sure you can look at Miggy's 2022 without acknowledging just how terrible he was after the All Star Break. .171 average with a cool ~.500 OBP. Obviously injuries factor in, but he is also nearing 40 years old and he's no guarantee to do as well as he did even at the beginning of the year either. AJ will find him some ABs early, no doubt. But after that first month, if he isn't producing and other guys are, whether it's Baddoo or Carpenter or whoever, those ABs are gonna get spread around. As they should, given the GM's stated position about AB's for young players being highly valuable
  17. A long read, but really enlightening as to Russia's tendencies
  18. Also, regarding the position she advocates, it's not going to happen and she knows it. But I gotta say, as someone whose politics runs in the opposite direction of the state that one lives in, it's pretty annoying when people advocate secession. i would even say the same thing for Republicans who live in states like Illinois or California, people are often born into a place and can't just easily drop everything and move just because of politics. Or they move to a place because they got a job and politics didn't cross their mind when they did that... They shouldn't be forced to accept a "divorce" and the end of their country because of some crazy partisan jackwagons and their inability to tolerate people with differing viewpoints. Anyone who advocates such a position is someone who has an unhealthy relationship with politics, to put it midly.
  19. I agree, she's not just a social media influencer, she's an actual member of Congress. One who sits on the House Homeland Security Committee, FFS. And she's basically advocating an Unconstitutional and, frankly, anti-American position in her capacity as such. In terms of social media backlash, I sort of get what Rob is saying, she's trying to draw attention/outrage because it's her brand and she won't care what anyone on MTS thinks. But because of her capacity in Congress, members of the media are fully within their right and they should be asking questions of Kevin McCarthy daily why someone in her position is allowed to serve on committees or even be in Congress while advocating such a position.
  20. And a national divorce... Does that mean we can call her a Confederate now?
  21. Colt Keith arrives today... I predict he will be in the best shape of his life lol
  22. He's definitely playing out the contract. But if other guys are performing at a higher level than he is, I don't see 400 plate appearances happening
  23. Even some of the other teams out there in the Tigers class tend to generate more excitement out of the national guys. I doubt the Royals are much better than the Tigers, in fact both PECOTA and ZiPs put them a little behind the Tigers in terms of 2023 projections. But the Royals have Vinnie Pasquantino who, great as he is, tends to be a figure of hype for the Petriello's of the world. On top of Bobby Witt and others.
