  1. Talk about an easy decision...
  2. Due process is required and all, but glad that the Tigers did not pursue or land Clevinger under the circumstances
  3. Shorter McConnell: " You're on your own, Kevin..."
  4. To be fair, he also said he didn't believe Biden did anything nefarious as well earlier today. In general, he's been one of the more level headed folks on the GOP side on this
  5. Cornyn's comments are interesting... maybe this latest revelation pushes this story beyond partisan outrage theater into actual concrete discussions about the classification process, whether it's too tight or not, why things sneak through, etc.
  6. This post looking better and better every day
  7. lol
  8. Yeah, the Catherine Rampell piece I just shared in the 118th Congress thread covers the dilemma facing the GOP well. It's a very pointless fight.
  9. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/01/24/republican-debt-ceiling-hostage-budget/ Really smart piece. For obvious reasons, both political and practical, SS, Medicare and Defense spending are all off the table. So the GOP plan appears to be to balance the budget while cutting taxes through "cutting wokism" or some ****. This is all kabuki theater, and a really dangerous version at that.
  10. Interesting piece... it hasn't been so much perceived lack of matching expectations elections wise that has led me to visit less more than just, at least on politics, they have edged into punditry a little too much and aren't particularly good at it.
  11. It isn't just the fact that it isnt a bigger story for me - it's that you really have to dig deep into the story before reading or hearing about the connections to Paul Manafort. Seems like important context that should be included a little more prominently
  12. Colt Keith at 8 in MLB Pipeline's 3B rankings
  13. Nah, I get it. I dont know that Andujar is someone that fits what Harris wants, but bringing him aboard on a minor league deal seems low risk. But at the same time, I do imagine that a lot of the same people who see Andujar as a viable 3B option were likely also gnashing teeth when it looked like Tyler Nevin or Andy Ibanez might be in line for the starting gig, despite the fact that it's likely that Andujar is on that same level of player at this point in his career
  14. Setting aside Tyler Nevin, I would imagine it's an open question whether Andujar is better than even Andy Ibanez at this point, who is another one of Harris' churned Toledo guys.
  15. Wouldn't have an issue bringing him on with an invite to camp, but in terms of RHH Corner OF, Nevin has played OF and his skillset more or less overlaps Andujar generally. And Andujar's walk rate seems kinda off of what Harris might have in mind as well. At that point, it becomes a question of whether one really believes that Andujar was more than just a flash in the plan in 2018 or if that's it. The fact that he was DFA'd by Pittsburgh kinda leads one to believe it's the latter. Because honestly, it feels like a lot of the hype around him is more a combination of his 2018 and the fact that he was in the Yankees org (and that young players associated with that franchise tend to get a disproportionate amount of hype).
  16. I dont know if Wenceel ultimately ends up an everyday ML player or not, but really you can't ask much more from the new player development folks (including those hired under Avila) than to salvage some value out of the previous regime's players.
  17. He's fine... Although all the reporting on "old friends" gets kinda old, although it's not just him who does it. At least from semi following the Rangers, the beat writers for them don't get nearly as hung up on that sort of thing
  18. Kinda surprised that Wenceel cracked this list...
  19. If nothing else, I don't know that the beat writers (not to mention parts of the fan base) have recalibrated to the fact that Harris runs a much different ship than his predecessor and isn't going to make "conventional wisdom" moves as well. To that end, Chapman even has the feel of the kinda move the last administration would make... the relief pitcher version of an Ivan Nova or Julio Teheran.
  20. Jung 86, Flores 87, Jobe 91, Keith 98 In the grand scheme of things, despite the difference between BA and BP lists, it's possible the lists may not even be that different and Flores/Jung/Keith might be just outside of BA's list. Part of why it is pointless to get hung up on the total within the Top 100 of any list... if a prospect is ranked 99 and another is ranked 104, is the difference really that big?
  21. Trump's wrong on most things, but he has much better instincts than the rest of his party on entitlements.
  22. I think you are fair here, it's not gone unnoticed. I know I used to be worse as well, but I've spent enough time in both red and blue America over the course of my life to conclude that folks in both groups don't understand each other or their wants/desires well at all. Which is understandable enough, most people are working for a paycheck and are most familiar with what's in front of them in their daily lives. That crosses the political spectrum - people are just trying to get by, and we should better understand that. What is discouraging is that there is really little appetite to even try to understand how different people live outside of what is familiar in one's day to day life. We just project our own beliefs onto people who live different daily realities and then just stereotype them. And then we act shocked that we are bitterly divided and little trust exists in society. We'd all do better, not just on this board but in society as a whole, not to just assume the absolute worst in people who don't think or believe as one does. Or live in places that are different than what one is accustomed to. But unfortunately, with our current set up, that seems unlikely to happen any time soon.
  23. Even setting aside that whole culture war manufactroversy, punching down and saying nasty things about various big cities is common to the point of being just background noise. And by extension, just accepted in society. Fox News, whose hosts often complain about elitism toward red areas, have absolutely no issues teeing off on and stereotyping various cities in this country. But, you know, that's different cuz reasons.
