One last thought on the list discussion: the problem with the Tigers isn't representation on lists... only having one guy on one of the lists doesn't make a system inherently bad. What makes them bad is that the Tigers have produced precious few major leaguers among players who aren't list material. Particularly on the position player side.
The same cannot be said of the Cleveland Guardians, St. Louis Cardinals, among a lot of orgs, who manage to find productive everyday ballplayers from prospects who aren't "Top 100" material.
That's a big piece that I hope changes under this new regime. They cant have a feast or famine minor leagues composed of high draft picks and literally nothing else and expect to be successful.
The law firm of Castro, Castro and Reyes going 3/3 on landing minor league deals remains the least surprising development of the offseason.
Low key one of the bigger indictments of Avila that each got as many chances as they did
As far as Colt Keith is concerned, as encouraging as he has been, fans should have a bit more humility and be open to all range of outcomes, including ones that aren't as positive as expected. And that the lack of him making a Top 100 list doesn't automatically make a list not have merit.
I would say the same in the other direction as well...
Lists are just incredibly subjective and not immune to being biased based on sources and methods used in compilation.
I don't know enough about each specific list to know who is more reliable than who has a better track record, but none of them bat .1000... Otherwise Jeter Downs wouldn't have been DFA fodder this offseason, for instance
He has a decent walk rate and could be a bounce back candidate, although I think acquiring Maton makes it rather redundant at this point assuming he gets a lot of ABs against righties and with other options (Kreidler, Nevin, etc.) able to pick up lefties more often.
Duvall, OTOH, I don't really see the fit with the Tigers.
Correlation =/= causation, but San Diego is also a few years removed from becoming a one-sport town. Can only imagine that helps further bond the city to its one remaining major league sports franchise.
Curious to see some polling on the GOP Race now that the immediate aftermath of the Midterms are behind us. DeSantis had a boomlet initially, but I suspect it was temporary
McCosky's writeup heavily suggested family was a decent sized factor, his son being a talented pitcher for a high school program up in The Cities... along with Bally budget issues.
The latter makes a lot of sense as well... whatever you think about Craigger, there's no doubt that his price tag is likely more modest than that of Jack Morris. (Despite all the colorful suits lol)
Probably wouldn't happen and he may not want it, but Greg Gania (from the Erie broadcasts) is really really good at what he does and would do well on the TV Broadcasts imo. Even when he does spot-work for DD, he sounds better informed on the team and org than the typical crew Bally would run back.
Maybe. But that seems incidental to the action of Morris and Bally parting ways... the truth is that we don't know the reasons that the action happened and it could be as simple as Morris wanting to spend more time in Minnesota with his family. Versus anything even performance / appeal related involving Morris or Monroe.
The whole TV booth kinda needs an overhaul... even less Jack Morris, they still have Gibby doing games as well... and as much as I like him (and remember his days with Josh Lewin), I kinda wish he would pass the torch as well.
I would also add that with respect to Monroe and the whole discussion about "millennials", it kinda comes down to talent... there's a reason that guys like Steve Stone and Jim Palmer are well liked in their respective fan bases across generations and Jack much less so... those guys are simply better at the job, provide better insight and don't say stupid s*** on a regular basis
This is overly harsh on Craig in the sense that for his flaws, he still generally doesn't make it all about himself or "back in my day" in his analysis. That alone makes him better than Jack Morris... not to mention the whole Ohtani thing or (just as bad imo) how Jack insinuated that Matt Manning wasn't tough enough when he came out of his start last year (prior to his long IL stint).
I tend to listen to the radio feed more than use the Tigers TV audio so maybe that skews my perception (also heard Craig on the radio with Dan, where he comes across better than on TV), I dunno. Craig is a bit of a hot dog and is too much of a homer, I get it, just feel like he's better by default due to Jack's flaws as color guy.
Craig actually does the analysis side of his job well, he just comes across as too much of a homer much of the time for my taste.
If he's picking up Jack's workload, I consider that a win overall, although better options may exist outside the org.
Also part of why I listed Maton in the starting lineup despite McClanahan... hard to see either Nevin or Kreidler getting that start on Opening Day. Although they may take a more utilitarian approach, we'll see.
