  1. I remember the video you are referring to and agree.
  2. Yeah - definitely nothing wrong with celebrating the small victories while acknowledging the bigger picture remains grim.
  3. Could totally see it as being reward for service, especially assuming he ends up gone after the year (which seems likely)
  4. I guess where we disagree is that players have agency in terms of wherever their ceiling is. It isn't just inherent to whatever org they are part of, which largely seems to be the argument I see on here. I dont know if any of them will be successful or not, to be honest.
  5. Do the players in this instance have any agency? Aren't they the ones out on the field playing the games, striking guys out or accumulating hits and runs? OK? I appreciate his insight, we are lucky to have it on this board,, but people are still allowed to take interest in the Tigers minor leaguers and wish for success even if they don't have a background in scouting. You are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to see things differently. But at the end of the day, I'm not predisposed to be negative and jaded all the time in my fandom, so I will continue to watch and follow and hope for the best. I understand that others approach being a fan differently and respect that. We will find out in time if any of the guys we have been talking about over the past year or so pan out.
  6. Seems really divisive to lie about half the country like this.
  7. Miggy to IL, Josh Lester to be selected
  8. Seems divisive
  9. Since we are talking about the youngins being the reason to watch, I wouldn't be upset to see Joey Wentz get some of Pineda's starts going forward lol
  10. With Kreidler in particular, it would be nice to see him show some promise in this stint. May have an impact on how a new GM approaches the offseason, what holes they choose to fill, etc.
  11. I do think the reasons that Dan Hasty and Emily Waldon types take heat are valid... a lot of the coverage is rosy and human-interest driven versus the facts. Having said that, I don't know that relentless negativity about any positive development that happens within the Tigers system is any better or any less an example of "bubble" thinking. Put another way, one can acknowledge and be pleased with the progress of guys like Meadows or Perez (especially given expectations coming into the season) or even the promise of guys like Flores or Madden while still being clear eyed that they may or may not make it. Or that their ceilings may not be that high.
  12. Sure. Not everyone has the same options. But let's not act like it's unprecedented either.
  13. With both Parker and Wenceel, I would rather they have a resurgence despite the skepticism that comes with it than the alternative of them continuing to suck in the minors. At least with the former, there's a chance you get a big leaguer out of either or both of them. It didn't look that way a few months ago. There's nothing wrong with being happy about that outcome
  14. Fair enough. But even so, I assume the Tigers arent the only organization talking to Baseball America or Jim Bowden and both still have to objectively look at player profiles to generate a list. And with BA in particular, given that their org ranking for the Tigers (27) is lower than other outlets, IDK if they have an institutional bias toward the Tigers in their analysis.
  15. All in line with what I have read. The lack of third pitching thing reminds me a lot of Matt Manning... good stuff, but it's hard to survive MLB as a starter without at least three pitches.
  16. If this were true, how do you think rehab clinics stay in business? Also, doesn't FMLA exist, which ensures the right for normal people to look after their health without expectation of losing their job? Just my two cents, but people stepping aside from work for health reasons is probably more common than you are letting on.
  17. The "hype train" thing that Ed talks about is real. And while some of us follow the Austin Bergner and Beau Brieske types and hope they succeed, at least on this board, I think most are savvy enough to not just swallow anything that Dan Hasty or other Tiger Prospect Twitter types put out there uncritically. Where I differ is with Flores in particular... Flores is, by all accounts, a borderline Top 100 guy. BA actually has him ranked 90 on their Top 100. And now, apparently Jim Bowden sees him as a possible Top 50 guy in the upcoming year. At least in this case, that isn't the Woodward Tigers guys or Dan Hasty doing the talking... these are objective analysts from outside of the org making that determination. It doesn't mean he will pan out or there isn't reliever risk, obviously, but he's garnered enough national attention to believe there's something there IMO
  18. The conversation here kinda in part started with Flores getting recognition from a national media figure, so at least in the case of him and probably Madden, I would say the truth falls more in between.
  19. Clearly they arent in the league of the teams you have mentioned. But there's a middle ground between thinking they are in that league and thinking that everyone following their pitchers is Charlie Brown kicking the football, and that's where this team lies in terms of its pitching development.
  20. I like the sport of hockey and watch the SC Playoffs when they come up, but I've been unable to invest myself in any NHL team for any length of time. Usually end up defaulting to following whichever team is nearby (which means Dallas for the past few years)
  21. Not sure you're referring to Madden or Flores or someone else here (since those guys are AA pitchers now), either way, I think it's possible to be interested in the performance of minor league players in the Detroit Tigers system despite the fact that many of them may not make the major leagues. Particularly on a Detroit Tigers message board for fans who follow this team more closely than the GP.
  22. Trust me, I get it.
  23. Fair enough. Completely reasonable, I don't know that there's a consensus around either guy being top-end material.
  24. If Flores and Madden were performing exactly as they have while members of any other org, the response wouldn't be CB and the football. Where they are and the recognition they are getting nationally is through their own talent... being drafted by Al Avila doesn't inherently make them predestined to failure
  25. Counterintuitive to the goals, but I would imagine that guerilla attacks would be wildly unpopular politically with the GP and would hinder the goals of whatever ideology they put forth. But, of course, nuts who are willing to exercise violence on the public are probably thinking of a world beyond democracy. Unfortunately
