That headline sucks too, IMO. The issue for me is this really shouldn't be a story at all... And I suspect that Kamala, by declining to engage and to let Trump dictate the terms of debate, deprives outlets of a juicy story and drama.

For context, same poll has Harris 51-46 over Trump... So a touch higher than the ~3.5 Harris lead in aggregates.... If Vance ended up the nominee he'd do better than this, but still, that's a wild wild result.

The "he's just joking" excuses, which we have heard for eight years, are always interesting as it is usually applied to things that really are painfully unfunny to begin with. Or not thought of as comedy in any traditional sense. I guess when I think comedy, I think Bill Burr, Nick Offerman, Shane Gillis... hell, even Rogan can be funny even though I think his politics are loony. Whatever JD is up there applying "fun and jokes" to is..... not that.

I doubt I'll even end up watching it, just thought the media frenzy surrounding this thing was ridiculous. And that the Trump GOP, for whatever reason, loves to lower the bar for their opponents to the point where it's a speed bump rather than an actual obstacle.

I have only seen clips of the interview, but it seems like she did fine in what I saw... which, given that the Rs spent the last month saying that she was the worst interviewer in history, means that the bar was absolutely floor level and she likely far exceeded it. Someone correct me if I'm off base here.

Nothing matters and all, usual caveats apply, but it is remarkable than just in the past couple of weeks, Trump has elicited rebukes from both the VFW and the US Army.

At a high level, this is correct. More specific to the allegation here is an admission that Kamala working at McD's is something that makes her relatable to a lot of people (something like 1 in 8 Americans have worked at McD's in the past, and many more have worked service jobs either long-term or as summer jobs). And just as Tim Walz being in the guard for 24 years cuts against the stereotype they are trying to build, Kamala having to work at McDs because (unlike her opponent) she wasn't born with a silver spoon in her mouth cuts against the stereotype as well. And they cannot have that. It's all very desperate and falls flat, but that's where it's ultimately coming from IMO

I'd have to go back and look, but my HS stint at McDonalds came off of my resume pretty early on.... probably midway thru college. My short stint at Applebee's during college *never* made it on, I'm pretty sure. Was lucky to have internships throughout college, which helped, but still it can't be that uncommon for summer / college jobs to be left on the cutting room floor. Just wild that they're now trying to create a "Stolen Valor" story out of ****ing McDs.... it reeks of weakness

I'm just amazed that, of this were literally any other campaign (either party), it would be a massive scandal that would result in heads rolling. But since it's Trump, it's treated like just another Tuesday. These are choices that are being made by the media... Just because people have floor-level expectations for him as a candidate doesn't mean stories like this don't deserve more coverage or scrutiny
