The BP may be less exposed with the young pitchers off the leash and allowed to go deeper into games. We sure don't want to condition our SP to only go 5 or 6 innings consistently.
The Packers are 42 million dollars over the cap. The Bucs are 11 million over. The argument in the Free Press this morning was the better teams find creative ways around the cap.
With the signing of Walker, maybe we won't be tempted to taking a safety at #2. I've read there hasn't been many safeties taken that early in the draft. Getting consistent pressure on the opposing QB can make our secondary look much better and also create more turnovers.
Yeah gotta admit though, Fontes was never boring. Always had a quote that fired the fans up. But looking back on it, that took pressure off the players. The Big Buck..lol
Plus, if we improve our offense, it won't put as much stress on the defense. Field position and time of possession are under-rated stats. Remember Wayne Fontes firing Mouse Davis because we were "scoring too quick?" Lmao
Remember Leyland hitting Kelly in the 2 hole, in the playoffs AT Yankee stadium? And then looking like a genius when Donny hit a 1st inning HR? Or was that just a dream?
Walker was playing very good ball last year. He was hitting very hard. And then hitting even harder. I would say it was very important keeping him. Very glad we kept him. A++
