And the the President gets on stage in front of the whole country and says he HATES Democrats. Half the country. People may not have voted for him but he took an oath to serve and protect the whole country. He really makes me sick...

Were flags lowered when Melissa Hortman, her husband and their dog were killed? Did Trump go to their funerals?

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread
Sports_Freak replied to IdahoBert's topic in Detroit Tigers
Well, we really don't need 4 catching prospects or 8 infield prospects in our minor league system. As I've been saying, a strong minor league system is for more than to just feed the MLB team with talent, they're also an asset to acquire talent from other teams. The problem for the Tigers is that young minor league players are cheap labor compared to established quality players. Harris wasted 15 million dollars on a broken down pitcher who wanted to retire and ignored other quality arms who were much better. And his trade deadline pickups actually hurt our team more than helped. We may have been better off without Morton or Paddack. Giving Keider Montero and Melton those starts may have gotten us better results. We'll never know... -

The drop-off was a sudden, fall off a cliff type. Two huge, double digit offensive outbursts in New York following by a 1-9 streak. Nobody really saw this struggle coming. Fans follow this team for 7 months this year only to have the last month knock the wind out of our sails. Pitchers forgot how to pitch and hitters stop hitting. All suddenly. -

Agreed. A RH hitting 3rd baseman and a quality SP. Not someone coming off of injury or some bottom feeding teams rejects but a top notch quality pitcher. And a couple of strong bullpen arms. Next season is a wide open window that very well may close if Skubal decides to split. I don't have very much faith that Harris can get this done. His trades and free agent signings have been....underwhelming. (and that's being nice.) -
Yeah, and last year the only reason we could catch Minnesota is because they fell off a cliff. Of course, I think we passed both KC and the Twins. And the Tigers haven't completed this collapse yet, it could be a double collapse. Lose the division and a WC spot. As unlikely as that seemed about 10 days or so ago.

But the point is we fell off a cliff after 2 huge wins. I would never have guessed that was about to happen. I just hope this losing doesn't bleed into next season, the way our winning continued this season from last year. It really is a remarkable turnaround. And quick. -

The Tigers beat the Yankees in the first 2 games of that series, scoring double digit runs. Ever since those 2 wins, we're 1-9. What happened during that last NY game that jinxed us? Was a curse put on us by an evil demon in attendance? -
Week Three: Detroit Lions (1-1) @ Baltimore Ravens (1-1)
Sports_Freak replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
The Lions need to control the clock to keep the Ravens offense off the field. And stop the 2 headed Raven rushing attack of Lamar and Henry. What would be really sweet would to beat them on a last second 66 yard field goal. -

So he's lost before. Good to know...😆 -
IDK...I think the Jays were 6 games ahead of us with 7 to go or something? These Tigers were way up on Cleveland. Less than 2 weeks ago, I wasn't even keeping an eye on other Central teams, just Houston, Seattle and Toronto scores. We had the Central wrapped up, or so I thought. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/870583-the-top-10-biggest-and-worst-collapses-in-baseball-history

Has anyone done the research to see if this will be the biggest collapse in MLB history?

Look for the road warriors to go in and upset the favored Ravens. 27-24 Lions. -

He was doing the MSU game last night at USC.

Wait until Monday night. Either your week will start out wonderful or it will be a horrible week.

If this winning % continues next season, we'll be worse. We had a chance this season, there's no guarantee we'll be there again. Harris figured we were a shoo in for the playoffs, fate had other ideas.

Harris is weak making trades. It's like he's afraid any prospect he may trade will turn into a really good player. And any player worth trading for usually comes with a big salary. And then there's his free agent signings. Yes, Torres has been good. But was it a case of his talents being offered to the Tigers or Harris actually going after him? Seeing that 2nd base hadn't a been a need and the signing was a surprise, I would say Torres fell into his lap. Cobb at $15 million? He could have had Matthew Boyd for the same money per season. Harris has been really good rebuilding an empty minor league system. But there's more to being a successful GM than just that. He had an opportunity to have a deep playoff run, this season and it looks like he's failed. He'll be kept around because the Tigers are making the owner a lot of money. And that's what determines if a business is successful or not.

Blame Javy. He can take the abuse...lol

You're missing the point. A collapse like this could very well have lasting implications. Look at Baltimore last season, kicking butt but refusing to trade any of their prospects for much needed pitching. They limped into the playoffs and were quickly eliminated. And this season? Last place and not even a .500 team.
-
Scott Harris actually said we have prospects in the minors who are going to help us win games...this season. Typical politician. Make excuses for your failure, lie and then just blame other people. And use distraction to....LOOK...a CAT!!!

The comeback with the 2 out home run in the 9th inning should have been an emotional victory against Cleveland too. But this team has had a slow moving collapse. It's like watching a very slow train crash. We all see and feel it coming but there's nothing to do to stop it. Just go into winter and deal with the obvious needs. The same needs we had at the trade deadline. We need pitching and more pitching and then even more pitching. Quality over quantity. No 40 year olds, pitchers coming off of injuries or bad team rejects. And I'll repeat.....having a strong minor league system should allow a team to trade a few of those prospects to fill the major league teams roster with needed talent. It's a pretty simple philosophy.
