I could see teams going with 3 SP and 2 games of BP usage. The key is having SP who get you deep into the game so the BP can mostly rest on their starts. But the Tigers also seem to be using closer by committee. I remember teams trying this but I don't know if they were successful very often.

What Hinch is doing is totally against what old timers did. Using 6 pitchers in a shut out? Unheard of, until recently. Several of these Tiger BP arms are former starting pitchers. So they can give you multiple innings. The old thought was if you empty out your BP, eventually one of the pitchers will give it up, get hit around. So I think the Tigers pitching is unique, former starters and a great pitching coach. No, it won't work for an entire season. Or...will it? 😆

Yes, he's a quality player. He's actually the best player at whichever position he's put at. I mean, he's our best defensive rightfielder and our best defensive 3rd baseman. But my favorite position player is Parker Meadows. The kid is a difference maker. And his defense is so good, Hinch even plays him against LH pitching. Meadows is going to be a huge star in this league.

The draft, super bowl and final four are all planned and known about months or years in advance. This Tiger run is all being played out in a matter of days, or a week. That makes the excitement more spontaneous.
