If we could extend him on a front-loaded deal where he gets his fair market value in money overall but lowers the payroll burden if he’s hurt in the back half of the deal, I think that’d be the way to go. Not deferred money, just hyper skewed towards the next two-four years.

The nice thing about the Skubal situation is that we made the playoff last year, are off to a good start this year, and have a top 3 farm system. Last year at the trade deadline it was looking bleak with us being nearly out of the playoff hunt and with Carp hurt and Tork and Meadows in the minors…..so there was reason to entertain trade offers for Skubal for future pieces. Now—there’s not much of a reason for us to deal Skubal strategically….so that changes the mentality of everything.
