I don’t know what the easy fix is for how platoony the lineup has gotten, but we need a core of players that can hit both handedness of pitching effectively. A few of them took big steps backward in that department this year.

I don’t like the idea of dealing Tork. It’d take a big trade or expensive free agent signing to replace him. You can say Alonso….but he’s a big time defensive downgrade. I think Tork took a nice step forward this year and I think he will take another big one once the ABS starts up.

I feel like you can say that about most positions though outside of superstar players. A lot of players regress (or outplay their deals) suddenly for no apparent reason I feel like Finnegan would be worth hanging onto, and then I’d maybe like to see us go after Coulombe and Kenley Jansen.

On one hand I don’t see Flaherty opting out of a $20 mil deal for next year on the other hand, he might be a top 3 starter in the free agent market, so maybe he risks it for something long term. id prefer we not bring him back. He can’t get deep enough into games with any consistency and we would be better off using that 20 million to boost the bullpen with legitimate relievers.
