    Statistically the picks aren’t likely to be especially valuable….however if certain guys drop out of the first round because of signing concerns, you could end up with someone good if you go over slot to sign them. The pick is definitely valuable but you need some good fortune with it, just like any pick.

    I would muuuuch rather have MLB ready or near-ready players in return for Skubal than draft picks.

    If he won’t sign by Thanksgiving, trade him. Absolutely cannot risk him getting hurt next year, getting pennies on the dollar at the deadline, or walking as a FA and getting nothing but a pick for him. if we have to retool to stay competitive, do it correctly this time.

    I’d say it has been successful, even though it isn’t ending well. They still made the LDS on a pretty light payroll despite having some pretty damming injuries to the pitching staff. The team is definitely trending downward and many changes need to be made to keep building as opposed to falling backwards into yet another rebuild phase.

    They could be. Thats why you don’t make a move to take out someone effective until you have to.

    I don’t understand the no confidence in Mize. He’s considerably more consistent and effective than Flaherty and most of the bullpen.

    I expect AJ to panic and go to Holton early even though Mize is pitching fine. Then Holton will get no more than 2 innings and we will have to rely on Montero/Kahnle/Finnegan to get us through the next 3 innings—which won’t go well.

    When you swing at everything, there’s no incentive for the pitcher to throw anything in the zone. I don’t think a single pitch to Carp was actually a strike.

    Taking Mize out at this point would be dumb. So I expect him to be done.
