  1. Well at least I won’t have to make good on my Sasaki bet and have to watch 162 White Sox games
  2. That’s what I was thinking too. Which isn’t a horrible strategy except after a while you’d think fans would get annoyed that they’re always rumored to be in on guys they never get.
  3. I always chuckle when Toronto ends up being reported as an option for a big name free agent. Nothing against Toronto as a city or even anything against franchise as a whole or the fans—-but outside of just the money and differences in taxes from the USA—-what is the motivation for a star player to want to be there? Youre in a division with the Yankees and Red Sox—who are always going to spend more to be more competitive than Toronto will be able to. Add to that now the Orioles and their system loaded with tons of young top prospects and the Rays top talent development. You’re playing in the Rogers Centre, while nice, is a 36 year old ballpark. They don’t have especially well regarded management or coaching/training staffs—compared to say Detroit, who has a World Series Winning Manager* and arguably the top pitching coach in the league. The odds that you’d sign there, be a part of a half-assed rebuild and then get traded somewhere else when they realize the window has closed again is very high…. Both of their other young stars will be free agents after this year—and it’s highly unlikely both re-sign…..especially if Toronto is out of it by the trade deadline this year (which they will be regardless of Sasaki) Not saying I want to see him go to SD or LA, but…..bro, give some other organizations a better look.
  4. Who are we really gonna celebrate from 90-06? Jeff Weaver?
  5. Shh shh it’s ok Justin. Billy Butler can’t hurt you anymore.
  6. With all the focus on the free agent pitchers, another possible way to go is to try and get Dylan Cease from SD. They’re reportedly trying to trim a bit of payroll- and Cease is good enough where I’d be fine with some prospect capital going their way. He’s still on the right side of 30 and hasn’t had injuries.
  7. A name I wouldn’t mind seeing us bring in is Tommy Kahnle. Considering Breiske and Vest have power fastballs, it’d be a good mix to have a changeup specialist in the pen too. He’s on the older side but that means we could probably get him on a shorter or cheaper deal.
  8. I can see Nashville….beyond that…..maaaaybe San Antonio? I don’t see Portland or Salt Lake City getting in it any time soon.
  9. RIP Brian Matusz I know several folks on here that were super high on him when he was a prospect with Baltimore, but he never really broke through in the bigs. Gone way too soon.
  10. I’m not sure Mize going all out in short inning relief has good enough swing and miss stuff to convert to effective reliever. He certainly wasn’t impressive enough in that role to make the ALDS roster. If he doesn’t put it together as a starter coming out of ST, I don’t know why you use a roster spot on him. So many other arms in our system—even guys like Guenther and Hanifee—have shown they can be highly effective situationally and fit as potential useful bullpen options.
  11. I don’t disagree with that either. Just saying most of what’s left isn’t better than our 5-7 rotation options, especially when you add in the possible cost. I feel like this spring is gonna be the deciding time on Mize and Mannings future with the club.
  12. There are only maybe 2 or 3 starters on the market left that I’d rather have over just starting Montero or Hurter.
  13. Can you not trade cash for a DFAd player?
  14. I don’t think you’d want to go through spring training and set your 26 man and place the others on the 40 man only to have to pass someone through waivers early in the year if one of your catchers has to make a 15 day DL stint or goes on bereavement for something.
  15. Well we are probably going to have to do something eventually because we only have 2 catchers on the 40 man. I imagine they’ll add Alfonzo at some point.
  16. Dodgers DFAd Diego Cartaya. Was their top prospect a couple years ago as a catcher. I remember people wanting him in return for E-Rod. He’s had a rough last couple seasons but he’s only 23. Maybe a fresh start in a new system could help him.
  17. I’m so confident that we won’t get Sasaki that if we do, I’ll watch all 162 White Sox games next year.
  18. I guess you’d do: vs RHP C- Rogers/Dingler 1B- Keith 2B- Torres SS- Sweeney 3B- Jung LF- Greene CF- Meadows RF- Santander DH- Carpenter vs LHP C- Rogers 1B- Keith/Ibanez 2B- Torres SS- Baez 3B- Vierling LF- Greene CF- Meadows RF- Santander DH- Whichever of Tork/Malloy makes the team So you’d basically be dropping one of Tork or Malloy, but then also McKinstry and Wenceel. Or Jung starts in Toledo and McKinstry platoons 3B with Vierling? Santander being an every day RFer would really reduce the platoon options that Hinch likes to use These would both be improved lineups offensively, but I really want to see Perez, Malloy and Jung be a part of the team.
  19. Not sure how Santander is a fit here. Would rather spend that money on pitching.
  20. Pena was at least a plus fielder and had good plate discipline, so there was other value besides power potential
  21. Yankees fans don’t seem to remember Chuck Knoblauch….
  22. Hot take: Tork moves back to third base….
  23. Wouldn’t shock me if McGonigle cracks the roster in 26 either.
  24. Hard to see where Tork fits in at all going forward. I can’t imagine Keith gets platooned much. Maybe Tork is the DH platoon with Carpenter, but I’d almost rather have Malloy or Ibanez be that. Wonder if Harris can move him on the market for anything worthwhile.
