  1. I just don’t see bringing either of those guys back as a depth move though. I see them more as a ‘hope they’re healthy for a playoff run’ guys. They’re in their 40s and have missed more time than they’ve been active each of the last couple of years. The odds that they’ll miss a significant amount of time next year is pretty high. There are plenty of other good starters that are going to be free agents that would be much more likely to give us 100-150 innings. Some will be expensive, some won’t. I agree with having the pitching depth and I’d prefer to see us spend to get it. If we are firmly in the playoff hunt next year and we need a starter who can be ace caliber—then there will be guys we can trade for next deadline.
  2. Sure, but what in either of their histories suggest they would do that? Especially Max. I think we are highly overrating how important coming back to Detroit would be for JV. He’s got World Series trophies and Kate Upton…..signing a cheap prove-it deal to make Tiger fans have warm fuzzy feelings inside probably isn’t high on this guys list anymore.
  3. At this point I could care less if JV comes back. Get guys who have production and a healthy track record that matches their price tags. I’d much rather spend the money to extend Skubal.
  4. McKinstry getting released tomorrow will actually be sad now
  5. Joey Cora is like a -5 WAR third base coach
  6. Madris deserves it for now.
  7. Might end up with the Yankees
  8. Ibanez is worth keeping unless we get someone who does specifically what he does better.
  9. Max Clark homered for WM Liranzo 1-1 with 4 BBs
  10. Don’t count out Sawyer Gipson-Long
  11. Finally happening. Lets jettison Urshela and McKinstry
  12. He has a better risk of being non tendoned
  13. How come players nowadays hardly have any good nicknames. Where are Champ, Skeeter/Scooter, Stubby, Dizzy, and Chicken?
  14. And Cabrera at his worst was still better than Baez in his current “prime”
  15. The weird thing is that it doesn’t seem like they are pushing themselves harder. Pitchers I can see since it’s all about velocity and spin rate now, but position players get platooned and pinch hit/pinch run for a lot more now than they used to. There aren’t a whole bunch of players playing 155+ games each year any more. On top of that, you don’t have nearly the amount of guys bunting and stealing a lot of bases anymore either. Granted, guys aren’t popping pain pills like they probably did in the 80s and 90s either….
  16. Ugh. I have tickets and wanted to see him play this year.
  17. They’re too weak. hes a sunk cost regardless of if he stays or is cut. However, might as well keep him until the offseason with how injuries have destroyed us.
  18. Its Miller time
  19. The Giants tv announcer is atrocious
  20. The way he was able to wear the armor and lean over the strike zone made it basically impossible to pitch to him without either walking him or throwing it over the middle of the zone. You couldn’t go up and in on him and set up other pitches. That was as big of a factor as any performance enhancers in my opinion. Kinda surprised more guys didn’t follow that trend.
  21. Could be on the pitchers also
  22. I don’t think they regret putting Mize on the 60 because they needed the temporary 40 man spot. it’s just that they haven’t really gotten any innings out of Brieske as a starter to help ease the bullpen
  23. Tork 3-3 with a walk so far tonight
  24. Gotta wonder how long they keep trying this. Mize can’t be activated till the end of the month.
  25. You could tell that doing the games was a big part of what kept him going and fighting though.
