AJ is the best I have seen at cultivating a culture, connecting with the players individually and collectively, and having a balance of x&o and analytics. Harris, etc al gave him what he needs to execute all of this. Sparky was also great at those aspects with the exception of having little analytics in his time. I do enjoy this team as much as I have any Tigers teams back to the '84 team. Now excuse me, I have to go take a dump.

Thinking about Matt Manning brought up a random memory of Pat Underwood's impressive start to his career in 1979. His first start was televised - went 8.1 innings, 0 runs, 3 hits, 1 bb. I remember it well, and being so excited thinking he could be the ace that takes over for Fidrych. Won his first 5 decisions. Ended 1979 6-4. Over the next 4 years he went 7-14 to finish his career 13-18 and was out of MLB at age 26. I believe he had arm injuries.
