Absolutely. Just think, once upon a time, our stars were Dmitri Young and Bobby Higginson .. Our big hope was exciting prospects like Kyle Sleeth and Kenny Baugh. Did either of them ever make it up to the majors? Of course we had some exciting up and coming pitchers like Jeremy Bonderman. My point is, we had to have fun wherever we could find it. Watching Nook Logan and Alex Sanchez constantly bunt for base hits made for entertainment during dark times. Then of course we got Pudge and Magglio, and Verlander and Granderson emerged from the farm, and by 2006 things started to get fun for real. I'll never forget Chris Shelton's ridiculous start. Literally hitting like he's Babe Ruth, until a few months into the season when the rest of the league figured him out, and he didn't even finish the year on the major league roster. This board made those days a lot of fun. And I wish a lot more of the old posters would resurface. Whatever happened to DaYooper? Yoda? etc Miss you guys wherever you are!

I remember very vividly, there was talk of trading DMitri Young in 2003, and somebody from this board, I wish I could remember who, started a thread titled "If Dmitri Young is gone, I'm gone." implying that if Young got traded away, he'd give up on being a Tigers fan. Then Dmitri Young turned into hot garbage and eventually was released in 2006, while the rest of the team was on a tear making their first playoff run in decades. But that "If Dmitri Young is gone" thread just kept getting bumped in 2006 so that the initial post would be taken out of context. Ehhh it was pretty funny for me at the time anyway! hehe

Man you are amazing!!!! how did you find those videos of Sanchez and Logan?!?! To scrub out the exact spots. So cool to see full 2004-2005 games as well. I know the Tigers didn't win a lot in those days but those are very nostalgic years for me. Man I still can't believe you found those. How did you come up with those videos????

This is true. Man i really miss this board as it existed back in those days. So many amazing posters that seem to have disappeared. We do still have some great people here however.

So in the scope of the MLB world, these guys have fallen into obscurity but I'm sure some of the posters on this board who were around in 2004-2005 remember Alex Sanchez and Nook Logan. Both guys were unhumanly fast runners but lacked in just about every other area of the game. So they'd routinely bunt for base hits, leading to teams frantically making wild throws, with Nook and Alex often getting 2 and 3 bases on bunts. Hilarity always ensued in these plays. I think both players got caught using PEDs and each faded into obscurity. Many of these plays where they exploited their speed resulted in plays fit for the blooper reel. I wanted to show some to my son, but I can't find any video on YouTube or anywhere else. Seems they are destined to be forgotten. Do any of you have any memories of Alex and/or Nook? Anybody know of any videos of their Tiger days posted anywhere?

Nice .. Yesavage was amazing!!!!! And in regards to my question earlier. All the Americans in here who are pulling for the Jays (specifically for reasons outside of the scope of baseball itself), I appreciate all of you, means the world with everything going on.

So just like pretty much every other Canadian, I'm pulling for a Jays victory in this series. I'm just curious who the American posters of this board are rooting for. Are you guys pulling for Toronto? or LA? Or do you guys care either way? Just curious!

Sorry if this has been discussed already but has anybody else noticed that Jason Benetti's voice sounds almost identical to how Mario Impemba sounded? It's uncanny. Hopefully he doesn't get into any arguments with Dan Petry over who gets to sit in the comfy chair. Anyway sorry for the useless thread. I just find it amusing how identical their voices sound.

Yup. 2006 is what I think of when watching this playoff run. Just the context that 2006 happened in. In 2003 we were the laughing stock of sports. In 2004, we signed Pudge. Guys like Dmitri Young, Carlos Guillen, and Pudge made 2004 fun to watch but clearly we didn't have the pieces to make a winning team. In 2005, we got Ordonez and had a promising start to the season, but there was a lot of clubhouse drama and in general, was a less fun year than 2004, and a step backwards. In 2006, Kenny Rogers was our big free agent signing and nobody had any expectations. But Chris Shelton came out of the gate like the second coming of Babe Ruth, Bonderman, Maroth and Robertson were pitching WAY over their heads. Rogers was a fantastic mentor. Verlander starting to come into his own. Nobody expected anything, and suddenly we were tearing the league up. Coming out of nowhere and beating the Yankees in the ALDS was something I don't think any Tigers fan will ever forget, especially when the team came out and partied with the fans. Seemed like such a down to earth team, relatable to the fans and nobody in their wildest dreams expected it. Anyway that's precisely what the 2024 tigers reminded me of.

This season was more than I possibly could have asked for. Fantastic entertaining baseball into October. Back in April, who would have ever thought? The question is, can we catch lightning in a bottle and do it again next year? Or was this year a fluke?

Well if you combine all 3 games, we've scored 6 runs this series. Incidentally, Cleveland has scored more runs this series, but I'll take it!

We've made this series into a best of 3, with the Tigers having a home field advantage. Very winnable series. Let's do this!

So I know the concept of using "openers" instead of "starters" has been around for at least 5-6 years. I don't know that's ever been done with as much success as we are seeing from the tigers. Hypothetically, if the Tigers catch lightning in a bottle and actually win the WS, or at least make it to the WS, do you think there could be a major trend of more teams adopting this system? Like to the point where ace starting pitchers are completely obsolete and obscure? As I said, openers aren't a new concept, it's just that Hinch is the one who has figured out how to do it 'properly.' Can other managers follow his lead? Is this just all a fluke, or is this something that is repeatable? I grew up with stars like Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, etc. Is a world where Starting Pitchers are no longer a thing really something that could happen?

More familiar names in here, glad to see. Another name I remember well, JonBenke, whatever happened to him? Didn't he get released on the old board for some reason? Trying to think of others ... OldTimey, Tyrus, spikesglaring, Florida Tigers, The Truman Show .. dt35456884 .. shauntacular .. Of course there was estrepe (RIP), probably the greatest asset this board had back in the day. Really miss his posts. And really really miss the old MTS days! Seriously though, if somebody still has a copy of the picture of slicknickshady's new Tigers hat, sitting on his un-made bed, please post it. That was one of the most iconic images on here, back around 2005-2006.
