I don't necessarily think it's pointless, since it is a good indicator of how well you can develop players on the way up, but I owuld agree its importance in fielding a winner during a multi-year window is overblown at least somewhat.

I think Hinch and the staff are trying to give Brieske as many leverage opportunities as they reasonably can before they consider demoting him to garbage time or worse. Fact is, though, he'd been relatively decent for the six appearances before this game, giving up no runs in six innings. The only really blemish is his tendency to walk guys, but he's borne down when he's had to. I think he'll probably get another leverage opportunity, maybe this week in Chicago if it arises.

I have been a little nervous about the Tiger coming to the south side and losing three of four, or something like that. No reason, just baseball. They may get rained out at least one night, though.
