Would that even happen today? I'm not so sure. Owners seem to be much more powerful individually and as a cabal than they were 35 years ago.

It was everything second amendment absolutists have been saying for the better part of a century. That hoary old chestnut he used is wrong. It's actually accurate when it's expressed, "Guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people." Most people without guns wouldn't simply change their method of murder, like stabbing or strangling or beating with a blunt object, because these methods can be overcome in the moment. A victim can't stop a bullet and then kill the shooter with it. But they could do that with a knife or a club and a piece of wire. It's why there are mass shootings and not mass clubbing or mass strangulations. People use guns for the certainty.

Wow, what a solid insightful thing to say about people who make a huge show of cloaking themselves with the fig leaf of religion. (h/t gehringer2) Jesus said to his disciples: “Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father. When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

This is what a rivalry should feel like. But as Tiger337 alluded to, we have not seriously fought the Clevelanders for any pennants or divisions for our entire existence, save the last couple of years. As a rivalry, it's just getting started, but I don't think we are quite at the boiling point just yet. We do need to beat them at some point for a division title or playoff series win, because rivalries have to be even, like Michigan-Ohio State, and not one-sided, like Michigan-Michigan State was from the 70s through the mid-2000s. You know when it becomes a true rivalry? When it gets its own Wikipedia page, like this or this or this.

Well, you can't fire owners.

It would be a lot more entertaining if we threw three pitches intentionally wide on him and then plunked him.

I know, neither do I. It’s possible some guys, like the Latin guys, do the dance without feeling that feeling. But yeah I’m with you: I’d rather not have to know.

So are the algorithms that create them to draw in the suckers so they can be handed the bags.

Solid save on the post. I was just a bit concerned we’d have to see you ****ting all over the team all playoffs long. That would have been a bummer.

I promise you we will not be going after Pete Alonso.

It's going to be a lot harder to play more than 162 going forward, not just because teams are smarter about resting players, but also because tied and postponed games in progress past the fifth inning generally don't get replayed in their entirety anymore.

OK, see you next year then.

Not just the from media, but from Baseball itself. Three of the series feature Big Six teams (Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers). All three of those are accorded full three-hour slots during times of day people are most likely to watch. One series contain teams from flyover country. That series is accorded only a two-hour slot, which means they anticipate viewers flipping from that to watch the Cubs when that one starts. Now try to tell me they don't play favorites.

Is this something you know because you’ve come across that allegation somewhere? Either way, anyone who is one of those by-their-fruits ye-shall-know-them consumers of sports and popular culture might consider dropping all allegiance to any MLB team since they are, to a one, all lousy with red hats.

He is the leader of that cabal, that’s for sure, so he is one of them. And they all get their news and views and cues from the same RWM ecosystem, and assiduously avoid everything else. It’s all part of the same parcel. It could be said that another complicating factor, of course, is that as the emperor with the invisible clothes, no one dares correct him or tell him what the real situation is, as with the Portland thing. It could also be said that everyone around him also can’t know what the real situation is, because they are all also plugged in to the same media ecosystem exclusively. It’s a self-reinforcing ghetto of lack of real world knowledge.

At least until Trump himself suspends the Constitution, which is definitely going to happen, at which point the new maga orthodoxy will be that it never was that good an idea anyway. No, it's not. Get rid of guns and a whole lot fewer people will be killed, since 79% of homicides are by gun (17,900 out of 22,800), and 55% of suicides are by gun (27,300 out of 49,300).

If by “genius” you mean I know where the Roster Resource section of FanGraphs is, then hell yeah, I’m a genius!

Motown Bombers? Is that what you meant?

A morally bankrupt individual making an intellectually bankrupt comparison between guns and cars? Must be another day in America. And this whole idea of "Charlie was a Christian gentleman just trying to create honest dialogue" crap that people (not just you) have been trying to snow the rest of us with is just eye-rolling nonsense. His whole "prove me wrong" format was designed not to genuinely engage with differing viewpoints, but to create gotcha moments that would resonate on social media. He was was, after all, a social media influencer first and foremost. I promise you never once did he ever post any video of him getting smoked in a debate by anyone. The whole thing was an intellectually dishonest exercise from the word "go".

Deepfake at work here, Bunker? Not really him?

Not a criticism of you at all, but I might have posted this in Media Meltdown, since that's what the real issue is here, and not just for Trump himself, but for the entire MAGA elite and all the red hat lemmings.

What's unlikable about them?

I don't blame you. I am also unhappy.
