I saw Paul McCartney three times in the 2010s, and while it was thrilling to be in the same building watching a living musical deity perform, I was mildly disappointed that at least 90% of the set list was the same across all three shows, two of which were in 2011 and the other in 2017, and that his banter and stories were substantially identical. He clearly geared the show to first-time/one-time-only attendees. I will tell you something that really impressed me, though: during his 2018-19 tour around the world, his US leg was almost mostly small cities, including Raleigh, NC; Greenville, SC; Lexington, KY, Fort Wayne, IN; Green Bay, WI; Madison, WI; and Moline, IL. I thought that was pretty cool of him to do.

I fairly interpreted what you had said as being most influential from Michigan. If we're talking about just influential in Michigan, then I don't know what that has to do with her power within Congress or the Democratic Party, which is where the conversation was going. If you are in the final analysis implying—or perhaps even flat out stating—that Tlaib lost the election for Harris by costing her the state of Michigan, then I would reply that had Michigan gone for Harris instead, Trump still would have beaten Harris by a score of 297-241.

Influential just in Michigan? I thought we were talking nationally. At least I am.

Every seat in the US Congress may matter, but not every seat matters equally. Jim Jordan chairs the House Judiciary Committee. Marjorie Taylor Greene chairs a House DOGE subcommittee. Rashida Tlaib chairs the multiracial Mamas' Caucus. They are not anything like the same. Rashida Tlaib is a fringe character serving a fringe constituency. When she starts getting actual power, then I'll start getting concerned.

Neither would I. And I couldn't see the Jays taking anything less than that for an two-time All-Star shortstop in his prime. Certainly not sell-low players like Sweeney or Jung.

BTW, in your scenario, you would be the one inferring, and I would be the one implying.

I loved seeing Zappa in 1988 at the Royal Oak Theater. That's when he was doing his whole register-to-vote drive. He was super engaged with the audience. They even played a one-shot-deal song called Promiscuous that appeared on the Broadway The Hard Way album. I also saw Dweezil Zappa at the Riviera Theater in Chicago last summer where he and the band played most of Frank's Roxy album, which was beyond fantastic. Probably the most disappointing was seeing Ben Folds at the Riv maybe five or so years ago. It was standing room only, hot and sweaty, I was stuck in the back where I couldn't see anyone on stage less than 50 yards away, and it was his one of his semi-classical a cappela shows, which, I did not see promoted as such beforehand. I think it's the only concert I ever decided was a sunk cost and I walked out on.

In case you haven't noticed, Marjorie Taylor Greene matters quite a lot when it comes to influence on the administration as well as a third of the voting population, whereas Rashida Tlaib matters not even a little to her own party and to practically anyone else outside of her little enclave. The only reason she gets any attention at all is she's Muslim, she's swarthy, and she's lippy.

This story just hurts my heart. A guy in Wisconsin robbed and beat a migrant. The guy gets arrested and the migrant was ready to testify against the guy. The guy then frames the migrant by writing a letter in the migrant’s name making a death threat against Trump, a totally made-up thing, and mails it to the local ICE office so the migrant can be deported before he testifies. The guy’s whole point was to be set free. The administration, of course, loves to believe stuff like that and arrests the migrant. They even issued a press release trumpeting the migrant’s arrest. Dogshooter Noem puts her ugly Botox face on the whole story. Then the guy gets busted for lying and is now facing additional charges for the frame-up. But here’s the kicker: the administration is still holding the migrant for making death threats against Trump, they are still going forward with his deportation hearing, and they still have the press release on the DHS website.
